Sh2-185 is an emission and reflection nebula, visible in the constellation Cassiopeia; it consists of two distinct nebulous regions with different characteristics. Its position is easily identified thanks to the fact that it surrounds the brilliant star γ Cassiopeiae, a Be star well known for being the prototype of the variable γ Cassiopeiae, belonging to a class of young and very hot stars; the bright nebula part can be identified in particular in a north-east direction with respect to the star, where there are two nebulous gatherings known as IC 59 and IC 63. In the photographs the reddish color of the ionized gas is clearly evident mixed with the bluish color of the dust which shines by reflection of the blue star light. Its observation is possible especially from the regions of the northern hemisphere, due to the high northern declination; in the evening sky it reaches its peak in the autumn months, between October and December. From the southern hemisphere it is possible to observe it only starting from the subtropical regions, up to the equator. Sh2-185 consists of a partly well-lit cloud system, located at the same distance as γ Cassiopeiae; the brightest sections are made up of the two nebulae cataloged in the Index Catalogue: IC 63, the southernmost, shows an evident structure of gas filaments, with optical emissions dominated by the red color, while IC 59, to the north, appears as a cloud with a partly bluish color and no organized structure. In particular, IC 63 consists of a region of ionized hydrogen and shows evident signs of photolysis. This phenomenon is very evident especially in IC 59, while in IC 63 the presence of strong ultraviolet radiation suggests the formation of a neutral hydrogen zone through the dissociation of molecular hydrogen.

De mangrovekwal (Cassiopea xamachana) is een kwal uit de familie Cassiopeidae.

Op de buikzijde van deze schijfvormige, 30 cm brede kwal leven eencellige algen in symbiose met de mangrovekwal. Zij leveren de kwal zuurstof en voedingsstoffen terwijl de kwal hen voorziet van een met netelcellen beveiligde plek. Omdat deze wieren veel zonlicht nodig hebben plaatst de kwal zich ondersteboven in helder en ondiep water. De tentakels gebruikt de mangrovekwal om kleine zeediertjes te vangen.

The mangrovekwal (Cassiopea xamachana) is a jellyfish from the Cassiopeidae family.

On the belly side of this disc-shaped, 30 cm wide jellyfish live single-celled algae in symbiosis with the mangrove jellyfish. They supply the jellyfish with oxygen and nutrients while the jellyfish provides them with a net cell-protected place. Because these algae require a lot of sunlight, the jellyfish is placed upside down in clear and shallow water. The tentacles use the mangrove jelly to catch small sea creatures.

A really impressive Moon halo i was lucky to witness this weekend. Ice crystals were in the air for about 2 hours providing an awesome show. As the Sun was setting a very close looking halos were visible, however i was skiing far from home and couldnt capture it..... was really nice to have a second chance later after the sunset.

The temperature this time wasn't really low, just -9С.

These two objects are emission nebulae that are about 7,500 light years from Earth. Also seen as a bright area near the lower left corner of this image is Fish Head Nebula (NGC896). The nebulae centers are ionized oxygen (O-III) and sulphur (S-II) gas while the outer fringes are ionzied hydrogen (Ha) gas. Each nebula spans about two degrees of our sky. The entire two-panel image spans about eight degrees on the diagonal. The stars in this image were captured as 30s RGB images while the nebulae where captured as 10m SHO images.

The Soul Nebula

The Soul Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia, 7500 light-years from Earth. Also known as the Embryo Nebula or IC1848, which is a designation used for the open star cluster embedded in the nebula.

Together with the nearby Heart Nebula, they extend over an area of about 300 light years, constituting a vast region of star formation surrounded by clouds of dust and gas.

La Nebulosa dell’Anima è una nebulosa a emissione situata nella costellazione di Cassiopea, a 7500 anni luce dalla Terra. Nota anche come Nebulosa Embrione o IC1848, che è una designazione usata per l’ammasso stellare aperto incorporato nella nebulosa.

Assieme alla vicina nebulosa Cuore, si estendono su un’area di circa 300 anni luce, costituendo una vasta regione di formazione stellare circondata da nuvole di polvere e gas.
