Waking the Dead: A History of Resuscitation exhibition at USC Norris Medical Library

Enlightenment physicians used the scientific method to experiment with resuscitation for the advancement of medical and social causes. In 1774, the Royal Humane Society began teaching lifesaving techniques and providing monetary awards to rescuers of the drowned.

Made from leather, moiré, cardboard, and metal. A small rectangular case with rounded edges, the exterior is made from a dark blue leather. a small metal release catch at the top centre. The interior is lines with a dark clue moiré fabric. The interior has blue cardboard dividers for card. Inside the case is a small rectangular paper card that reads: SAMUEL VAILE/ AUCKLAND
