The Fiat 500 or Fiat Nuova 500 is a city car built by Italian automaker Fiat since 2007. The car is currently produced in Tychy, Poland by Fiat Auto Poland S.A. and in Toluca, Mexico, by Chrysler Group LLC. Strictly a four-seater, three-door hatchback, the 500 is almost identical to the retro concept car Trepiùno presented in 2004. Designer Roberto Giolito's current Fiat 500 is a direct crib from Dante Giacosa's 1957 original rear-engined Fiat 500 or "Cinquecento Nuova".[3]
The car was announced on May 5, 2006,[4] and the first images were presented on March 20, 2007. The car was launched officially on July 4, 2007,[5] with 250,000 people in attendance. This was the largest launch party held in the last ten years, a testament to the Cinquecento Nuova’s huge popularity.[6] The car was displayed in the squares of 30 cities in Italy for the launch.[6]
The 500 is available with four different trim levels: Naked (this version not available in the United Kingdom, opting for this trim level means that the car does not have the seven airbags meaning that the passenger safety rating drops), Pop, Lounge, and Sport. Customers can choose also between 15 interior trims, nine wheel options, 19 decals, and 12 body colours. There are over 500,000 different personalized combinations of the 500 that can be made by adding all kinds of accessories, decals, interior and exterior colours, and trims.[7] The car is also available with the Blue&Me navigation system. The American Sport version has the 1.4 litre Multiair engine, which is manufactured in Michigan, United States.[8]

APAL (Application Polyester Armé Liège) is a Belgian company, founded in 1961 by Edmond Péry. The company competed in Formula Vee.
Apal has become known for the construction of buggies with a structure made of fibre-reinforced polyester. These could be placed on a chassis of the Volkswagen Beetle. For the two-person version (Buggy C), the Beetle chassis had to be shortened by 27.3 cm; the four-seater version (Buggy L) fitted on an unabridged chassis. Wide rims, bucket seats and an open roof completed the buggy. Approximately 5,500 of these two versions were produced from 1969 to 1981. This makes it Apal's most popular model ever.
The first Apal was the Beetle-based Apal Coupé presented in 1961. About 150 of these were sold between 1961 and 1965. From 1966 to 1967, Apal built a coupé superstructure for the Triumph Spitfire. From 1967 to 1968, the company built fifty Muschangs based on the Renault 4; small open all-terrain vehicles, mainly with two-wheel drive. A dozen did get four-wheel drive.
The Samtrack followed in 1968. This was also a small off-road vehicle with the mechanics of the Volkswagen 1600, but on a tubular chassis specially developed for this car. It had three seats in the front and five seats in the back.
The Auki was built in 1969, again on a Beetle chassis. This was a design by two Swiss based on the model of the Model T Ford. The molds were changed three years later with an English manufacturer against molds for the buggy Jet that Apal produced with some modifications.
From 1981 to 1998 Apal produced the Speedster, a replica of the Porsche 356 Speedster. Another car built on a shortened Beetle chassis. About 700 Speedsters were sold. With the discontinuation of the production of the Speedster, the car production at Apal finally came to an end.
In 1986 Apal presented the Francorchamps at the Brussels Motor Show. The car was designed for American investors, but was never produced due to a fall in the dollar. The two cars at the Motor Show are the only two ever built.
A company from Germany took over the molds for the buggies, but due to stricter requirements, production of these cars was discontinued around 1996.
Edmond Péry is still director of Apal et Sunset, which has specialized in the manufacture of bathrooms since 1972.
The Corsa takes a step further towards an open sports car. This Buggy has a folding linen roof or a hardtop and gullwing doors. This is a very streamlined model with plastic covers over the headlights. (Withdrawn from the program in 1980)
This is an original Apal model. Here the switch was made to a small 2 + 2 roadster. In addition to the buggy fans, an attempt was perhaps made to tap an audience that was looking for something special and sporty.
This vehicle offers more comfort than a Buggy. It has an opening front trunk with spare wheel and storage space for the fabric doors or the roof.
The seat is remarkably low and sporty. Driver and passenger sit wonderfully, but space in the back is very limited.
The roof can be opened to the rear and can be closed in half a minute.
In addition, a hardtop with hinged doors could also be supplied. This made driving enjoyable all year round.

The Apal Corsa was briefly imported into Great Britain by Cartune of Middlesborough.
Not much is known about this model, the paper said that this is the only one that exists/is made.

For a car owner/enthusiast, especially those into tuning..these circular metals are probably like lifesaver candies and as the song say...windmills in their mind.

Detail of "Way of Roses", cross stitch embroidery on car parts, by Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene (LT) at the Strich & Faden - Heimat, Folk-art and Travesty art exhibition at Kunstraum Richard Sorge, Berlin, May/June 2009.
Lithuanian textile artist, teacher and curator Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene takes pleasure in things that are only insignificant details to most people. Proletarian concepts of beauty and utilitarian things inspire her and form the basis of her cross stitch embroideries on car parts, "Way of Roses".
About the Strich & Faden exhibition:
The folksy German expression "nach Strich und Faden" means to do something thoroughly, with great artistry and precision, or according to the rules of an art or craft. In contemporary language the term has gained connotations of trickery, deceit and travesty: our belief in authenticity has gone. Travesty (in the sense of deceit and role playing) is a device present in many works in this show, either as an artistic attitude, or as a subject matter. The participating artists use it to subvert both the traditions of Art & Crafts and our expectations of art.
The new edition of Strich und Faden presents representatives of the thriving US-american Neocraft scene - some of which are shown in Germany (or Europe) for the first time - and presents them alongside their (Eastern) European colleagues. Strich und Faden II goes beyond crafting however, also incorporating conceptual and neo-traditional works on folklore and regionalism.
