Dip Pen and water colour.

Imagine a world before the Internet, where there was hardly any form of communication amongst the crossdressing/transvestite community. All was not completely lost however. One single light in the UK during the 1980's and 90's was Swish Publications's "World of Transvestism" (or WOTV as it became abbreviated). A successor to the much earlier "Tranz" magazine, WOTV was published monthly, inside was an "Aladin's Cave" of letters, photos (black and white), occasionally stories and illustrations. The publishing quality was quite poor and WOTV was not cheap (I think it was £6 when I first started to acquire my own personal copies). The cover usually graced some of the more photogenic girls, many of whom I am pleased to say are on Flickr. In view of their privacy I shall not post those, but I would like to share this cover showing an example of the sorts of illustrations that were often printed.

Stockists were few in fact in my area there was only one newsagent that stocked maybe one or two copies a month, but one could travel to Swish's main store in Greek Street London, to purchase missing copies or "bargain bundles".

Sadly I now longer have the magazines, but I did scan all the covers and most of the images of some of the girls from those magazines. If you did appear and would either like a scan, or have no objection to your cover (or image) being published here, by all means get in touch. The issues I have scans from are below.

This is just a fun little cartoon style rendering, using and sketch from a post it note.. I took a pic of the sketch with my cell phone, sent it to my email, saved it to my desktop on the computer, then imported the file to GIMP..

My post it note pad is where I do most of my quick sketching..

If you are traveling between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, would you make a planned stop at a waterpark? It turns out for most people, the answer so far has been a hard "NO!"

Night photo at Lake Dolores Waterpark, an abandoned waterpark off I-15 in the Mojave Desert. Previous incarnations of the park featured stand-up and 50 mph waterslides, bumper boats, zip lines, high dives, trapeze-like swings, and more. The waterpark has also been operated under the name Rock-A-Hoola and Discovery. Regardless, all attempts have dried up. The site is now a series of badly damaged retro-futuristic structures and waterslides, mostly frequented by taggers, skateboarders, and arsonists. One of the caretakers gave me a brief tour of the site and pointed out some man-made ramps, allegedly haunted buildings, and fascinating tales of trespassers conducting seances. I illuminated the scene with various colored lights using a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 during the exposure. The sky was hazy with smoke from catastrophic fires further north, including the Caldor and Dixie Fires. This may appear in an upcoming book of night photography of abandoned locations. Thanks!

I gave this desert landscape a cartoon feel - another 2D flat landscape created in Photoshop.

--- tsc tsc, tolinho!

Foram:

Hands up if you like Snoopy and the Peanuts cartoons!! This is just an experiment but I thought you'd like to see it anyway! JJ showed me a video at the weekend of how to create your own Peanuts character! So based on what I saw I created JJ, me and Tim, as cartoon characters! I had a plan to take it further, but the scanner isn't working at the moment, so I'll need to fix that before I try the second experiment!!
