We took one of the carriage rides while in Savannah and it was most interesting to hear some of the little known facts about the downtown area. Cemeteries where the bodies were never moved with buildings built over them, devastating sickness that wiped out thousands weekly, and of course all the movies including Forrest Gump that were filmed in one of the 22 squares. More than that, it allowed some picture taking without fighting the traffic and pleading with my husband to pull over for a picture. Anyone else have trouble getting their spouse to stop for pix?

The little one reminded me that I had promised her a carriage ride through the Quarter.
That it was late didn't matter.
'You promised me dad.'
And so I dressed and grabbed my gear.
A promise is a promise.
She said that she wanted to bring an apple for the horse.
The ride was a beautiful way to end the night...
the 'clop clop clop' of the horseshoes on the street the only sound...
the sidestreets lit with the flame of gas lamplight...
the night air was perfect.
we wound through the old French Quarter with our driver in an odd silence that I'm not used to while travelling.
It made me feel like I'd traveled back in time...
and my daughter was glowing brighter than the gas lamps that lit the streets.
She was captivated and enthralled.
It was everything she dreamed it would be.
And she treated our 'horse' to a carrot after our ride.
It was a magic night...
and her smile was there even after she fell asleep...
probably dreaming of carriage rides in places that would exist only in her mind.
There is a magic to this city.
It has a fascinating soul.
