My new mattress arrived! And hey, it fits perfectly on the platform! It's almost like I measured the wood when I cut it! Crazy!
It looks great and is about a million times more comfortable than my old mattress. I'm really happy with how the final bed came out.
A teen-age boy chats while learning carpentry skills in Martissant, Haiti, through the USAID-supported IDEJEN program. IDEJEN promotes better livelihoods for out-of-school youth age 15-24 by focusing on their socio-economic reinsertion into the community. The project delivers vocational training in carpentry, masonry and professions essential to Haiti's economy.

What I've been busy with lately: I'm on the board for the local historical society, and we decided to take the museum renovation we'd been planning "in house" so to speak in order to save some money during these COVID times. This has worked out pretty well, but some of the jobs have pushed our volunteers (myself included) out toward the edges of our competence at this sort of thing. But when needs must...
This bit was handed to me: how to fill in this wall surrounding the stairwell down to the collection archives to make more surface available for exhibits. I managed to cobble something together; with some additional blocking (not seen here), it provided pretty reasonable support for the MDO panels used to create the walls.
Between the paneling of the whole space, its painting, and then this minor construction, I've been pretty tied up for the past couple months. Almost done now. The trim is going in and the last bits of painting are happening this week. Have to get in there and get a current shot to show that it looks better now than you might guess from these shots.
