The very colourful Maria Grazia Onorato, currently on charter to CLdN from Moby/ Tirrenia operating in from Rotterdam to Dublin assisted by Dublin Port tug Shackleton.
Maria Grazia Onorato was built by German shiupbuilder Flensburger around the same time as the Irish Ferries WB Yeats.
On the side of the ship reads "Onorato per i marittimi italiani " which translates "Honored for Italian seafarers". The Onorato shipping company which owns Maria Grazia Onorato hires only Italian seafarers, and lobbies against competitors using non-EU labor to drive prices down.
The new power at Dublin Port, Seatruck are now top dog at the port, ousting P & O down to one berth down the river, literally.
All change at Dublin Port with Seatruck Ferries ( now part of CLdN / Cobelfret ) switching terminals with P & O Ferries.
P & O ferries now down to just 2 ships from 4, are pushed down to Seatrucks old terminal 5, while Seatruck now move to T3, now remaned to T4 including new berths.
Two of the 20 refrigerated trucks, that City Harvest uses to rescue and distribute food with the work of more than 150 full-time employees, and more than 8,000 volunteers in the greater five borough area of New York City, NY on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. In fiscal year 2015, they will collect 50 million pounds of food, greater than the total amount of food collected in its first 14 years combined. Seventy-five percent of this total will be comprised of nutrient dense foods, including fresh produce, meat and dairy. Today, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Deputy Administrator Stan Meiberg will join with private industry and charitable organizations represented by City Harvest Executive Director Jilly Stephens, Food Marketing Institute President and CEO Leslie Sarasin; and Feeding America Chief Supply Chain Officer Bill Thomas, to announce the United States’ first food waste reduction goals at City Harvest’s food recycling facility in Long Island City, N.Y., on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. The announcement occurs just one week before world leaders begin to gather at the United Nations General Assembly in New York to address sustainable development practices and goals, including sustainable production and consumption. The U.S. Food Waste Challenge. began in August 2014, food banks across the country competed to see who could sign up the most food donors to the U.S. Food Waste Challenge. From among the 200 food banks in the Feeding America network, the champion was City Harvest for signing up 114 donors to the Challenge. My new recycled Burley trailer connected to the Surly LHT.
The Burley trailer is an old old old kiddie hauler that I picked up a flea market for $20 and spent maybe another $20 to convert into the cargo hauler seen in this photo.
The Surly is set up as my cross country bike. The shellaced bars were finished only last week.
The Surly "Nice Rack" on the front is a stout rack.
So on this set up - what I cannot carry - I can haul.
The trailer will be used on a 26" MTB bike and the deck sets more level when connected to a bike with smaller wheels (smaller than the 700c x 38 on the LHT).
I bit off a bit more than I could chew with this trip. The 4.3 mile trip home took about an hour. There were a couple of uphill blocks where I had to get off and just shove the bike and trailer up the hill. Plastic soled clipless shoes are not the best footwear for that.
My friend Levi helped me trim wood at the site, and loaded up his station wagon. I beat his load by about 80lbs. To be fair, I took a lot more time loading, and it probably only took him about 10 minutes to drive back to my place.
Total weight hauled including the trailer, rubbermaid tote full of tools and tiedowns is about 622 pounds, the equivalent of about 31 cases of beer.
Towed this week:
5 X 240lb loads of wood chips
430lbs of landscaping rocks
568lbs this load of firewood
300lbs firewood scavenged from the greenway (weight is an estimate)
for a total of 2,498 pounds, or 1 and a quarter short tons. (or about the weight of 125 cases of beer if you have an easier time picturing that)

Purchase the Burley d'Lite trailer at a flea market for $20 - all of the nylon was ripped and rotten and falling off the frame - just perfect for my needs.
Took it home - removed all nylon and textile products from frame.
Remove two angled upright aluminum tubes and bent them (by hand and foot method) to be somewhat symmetrical to serve at side rails.
My vision was to have this kiddie hauling trailer transform into a cargo trailer like the Burley Flatbed trailer.
I used two simple rules on the rebuild of this trailer:
1. Don't replace any hardware unless you have to.
2. Don't drill any more hole int the aluminum frame unless I have to.
Spent about $10 on stainless bolts and nuts with nylon inserts at Home Depot.
Spent about $5 on the plywood floor.
Friend gave me new hitch - the original one was old, rusty and broken.
Total cost for me to buy and own this trailer was about $40!!!!! I'm very happy with the results.
Very close to the Burley Flatbed trailer in looks and functionality.

Not sure if I could pull hundreds of pounds of cargo every day, but I could probably do it every other day. Maybe next year I'll shoot for the full 30.

A new blanket of snow covered the show room, service center and the trailers, at Trailers of the East Coast on Wednesday, January29, 2014. While snow began falling in the early afternoon, the bulk of the accumulation occurred after dark. The undisturbed blanket of snow had an eerily quiet effect in the dark of night. These were taken at about 10 PM last night (Tuesday). We expect most of the snow will be gone by tomorrow.

Weather forecast was for light rain/wintery mix. We ended up getting 2 or 3 inches of snow. Took me a long time to haul the trailer home through all that. Had to push the bike for at least a mile.

WILLYS MB 4x4 1/4 ton Utility Truck -
One of the first mass-produced military vehicles in the United States, the Willys MB (and Ford GPW) U.S Army Jeep is the culmination of war-time ingenuity, standardization and strategic personalization for transport of personnel and cargo. Soon to become the ubiquitous, ''world-famous'' Jeep, the Willys MB and Ford GPW models were very effective on the ground, with many standardized features such as 6.00x16 tyres, 60 honest horsepower at 4,000rpm, a gasoline can bracket on the left rear, provisions for trailer lights, spark interference suppression, a blackout light system, twin top bows and sealed spring shackles.
Prior to the production of the MB/GPW, other attempts were made to satisfy the Army's need for a Light Utility Vehicle including the first prototype presented by the American Bantam Car Company. Nicknamed the ''Blitz Buggy'' this vehicle concept which was the first bid accepted by the Army, as it satisfied the Army’s Ordnance Technical Committee specifications that the vehicle has:
▪︎Four-wheel drive.
▪︎Crew of three.
▪︎A wheelbase of no more than 75in and tracks no more than 47in.
▪︎A fold-down windshield.
▪︎A 660lb payload.
▪︎An engine capable of 85 ft lb of torque.
▪︎With an empty weight of no more than 1,300lbs.
WILLYS MB JEEP 1/4 ton Trailer -
The Jeep trailer was a small, 1/4 short ton (0.22 long tons / 0.23 ton) payload rated, cargo trailer, designed in World War Two, tailored to be towed by 1/4-ton Jeeps. Versions of the quarter-ton jeep trailer remained in military use, by the U.S. or other countries, at least through to the 1990's.
When the Jeep was developed, it needed a cargo trailer that would track behind the vehicle. The first trailer was called the ''Trailer, 1/4-ton, 2-Wheel, Cargo, Amphibian''. More than 150,000 Jeep trailers were built by over ten different companies, during World War Two alone. American Bantam built some 75,000 of their T-3, and kept building Jeep trailers after the war.
Willys-Overland also built more than 60,000 of their MBT units (Willys MB Trailers). Other manufacturers contributed only hundreds, or just a few thousand units. A special trailer was the Converto (Airborne) Dump Trailer, of which several thousand were built. Later versions of the trailer were the M100 trailer for the Willys M38 Jeep and the M416 trailer for the M151 Jeep.
