This is the front facade of Hays Wharf, also called the St Olaf building, which now houses the cardiology department of the London Bridge Hospital. As you would expect from it's Art Deco design the building was built in the 1920s when Art Deco was all the rage. If you look closely at the design enclosing the central windows (which btw are reflecting architecture across the river from this building, which is situated on the Thames at London Bridge) you will see stylised figures across the top. These figures represent the original workers that worked at this wharf location which historically was used to unload luxury goods coming into London on ships. Down the long sides you will see a string of objects that represent the goods that came into this wharf.

I've always loved the look of this facade but because of how it is situated, virtually overlooking the river, there is no real way to get close up to it unless you have a very long lens and shoot it from the opposite shore. The only option is to get on one of the passenger boats that ply their trade on the Thames and get a seat on the left hand side of the boat as you travel upriver towards Westminster, which is what I've done here.

Designed by H.S. Goodhart-Rendel, the river facade has panels by Frank Dobson called ‘Capital, Labour and Commerce’.

Some really interesting history on this building on the link here:

We are in that time when Di has all her Oncology and Cardiology check ups and scans so there will be days, like today, over the next week and a bit when my time for Flickr will be limited. I will keep up as best I can.

Firstly we want to thank all the team, especially Rachel James (cardiology specialist) & Harry (medic) & Lorenzo (neurology specialist) at:- www.nwspecialists.com/ for all their knowledge and expertise, and for making sure Razz came home in good health and on his way to a full recovery!

We are still waiting for lymph and joint fluid, and a couple of overseas disease results to come back from the veterinary labs .... but so far nothing sinister has shown up!

"FEVER" with unknown origin is what we are dealing with!

This is a pic of Razz enjoying his first night at home (without being attached to intravenous drips) comfy on his sofa. With almost a week in the vets i know Razz is glad to be back home ... that inner craziness he has is starting to show! :-)) x

Its summary: Former Surgeon General: Mainstream Medicine Has Endorsed Medical Marijuana

By Dr. Jocelyn Elders, AlterNet. Posted March 26, 2008.

An historic document from the 124,000-member American College of Physicians certifies the medical value of marijuana.

One of America's largest and most important groups of physicians has moved to cut through the clutter of political controversies over medical use of marijuana. Lawmakers and the public alike would do well to pay attention.

The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization and the second largest physician group in the United States. Its 124,000 members are doctors specializing in internal medicine and related subspecialties, including cardiology, neurology, pulmonary disease, oncology and infectious diseases. The College publishes Annals of Internal Medicine, the most widely cited medical specialty journal in the world.

In a landmark position paper released in February, these distinguished physicians are saying what many of us have been arguing for years: Most of our laws have gotten it wrong when it comes to medical marijuana, and it's time for public policy to get in step with science.

Right now, the laws of 38 states and the federal government bar use of marijuana as a medicine. Federal law classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, defined as having no accepted medical use and being unsafe for use even under medical supervision.

ACP's position paper urges "reclassification into a more appropriate schedule, given the scientific evidence regarding marijuana's safety and efficacy in some clinical conditions." The document goes on to call for protection of physicians' right to "prescribe or dispense medical marijuana in accordance with state law" and "strongly urges protection from civil or criminal penalties for patients who use medical marijuana as permitted under state laws."

ACP supports its position with 10 pages of scientific documentation and references. They cite data showing relief of the nausea, vomiting and wasting that can worsen the misery of cancer, AIDS and other diseases; of the pain and tremors associated with multiple sclerosis; and for relief of pain caused by a variety of other conditions. They note that marijuana in combination with some pharmaceuticals may produce more benefit than either drug alone.

ACP calls for more research, but then adds a critical point: In some areas, the efficacy of medical marijuana has already been established, and it's time for studies designed to determine the best dose and route of delivery.

The ACP position paper demolishes several myths, starting with the notion still proclaimed by some politicians that marijuana is unsafe for medical use. The College notes that the most serious objection to medical marijuana – potential harm to the lungs from smoking -- has largely been solved by a technology called vaporization, already proven in scientific studies.

The ACP position paper also explains that there is no reason to believe that protecting medical marijuana patients leads to increased drug abuse. "Marijuana has not been proven to be the cause or even the most significant predictor of serious drug abuse," the doctors write. "Opiates are highly addictive, yet medically effective ... There is no evidence to suggest that medical use of opiates has increased perception that their illicit use is safe or acceptable."

This is an historic document. Large medical associations are by their nature slow, cautious creatures that move only when the evidence is overwhelming. The evidence is indeed overwhelming that, as ACP put it, there is "a clear discord" between what research tells us and what our laws say about medical marijuana.

It appears that voters and lawmakers in a number of states will consider medical marijuana proposals this year, and Congress will again be asked to stop federal attempts to interfere with the 12 state medical marijuana laws already in place. It's time to end that "clear discord" and put science ahead

of politics.

Hope?

is the surprise of reality

given in dreams

from the deepest realms of sobriety

in the qualm of hidden fear

the pulse?

has no finger to sanctify;

only acting on impulse

this time,

eradiating results of Spring

not for the first time,

nor the last rite it may bring

all the unsaved work,

of which, what becomes?

this quandary of ills

beget the forgotten heartbeaten drums

and is help at hand?

the same one

with a finger on the pulse

of coincidence undone

I'm pining away the good health

in adrenalin rushes

of forgiven co-insurance

that of life and the other side it brushes

I hear it all now

chanting in melodious trance

taking me further...away

a somewhat reflective glance

it is to be sure

the reign of health

that sovereign of "today"

exacts revenge upon lost "wealth"

those riches we plundered

reserves of yesterday they were

used up earlier leaving nothing

but a dry, empty tank to confer

can it really be so?

the relic of surviving the past

is but a ghost of tomorrow -

a premonition as yet unsurpassed.

Sorry for being absent my dear flickr friends, I have problems with my heart. Still awaiting MIBI and other cardiology results.

Have a fine day all~~!!

Rena won't taste anything so this carefully selected candy is safe.

When I was a little girl my mother would take my older brother and me to the doctor or dentist in Portland, Maine, our close big city. After the appointment we always got to go for ice cream sodas or ice cream sundaes and that's such a happy memory.

So after a great cardiology checkup today I rewarded myself! Thanks, Mom.

Image 8 for my NHS cardiology Thank you project. A misty morning at the end of Autumn in Solihull, UK. This was taken not too far from where I received massive help from passers by, my wife, West Mids Police and West Mids Ambulance service.

This scene with the mist and trees mean a lot to me and resemble the disease at the fore, but new fresh life all around and shining through. A second chance, but some things are not to be forgotten.

I saw one of my older photos when I was a few years into my digital photography hobby and while I was still a medical student, where I photographed my kitlens and one of my first Littmann Classic II SE stethoscope, and it was entitled "When Passions Collide" (I did say COINCIDE in the photo's description), and I felt that I need to do an updated shot, this time with my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM lens and my Littmann Cardiology III stethoscope that I purchased when I became a full fledged physician back in 2016.

Plus, this gives me yet another reason to practice more off shoe flash photography with 2 external flashes as I am more adept with using only 1 external flash.

Good news and bad news today.

Good news is: my cardiology appointment went well... still going to get some extra tests done but doctor thinks I'm ok. Yay! LOL

Bad news: My Flickr Pro account expired today. BOO. Upgrading it till next pay day. Few weeks so until then, you can't see all of my pics in archives. Sorry. =(

And on a good note, we had a beautiful sky today. This was taken in Las Cruces, NM on our way back home from my doctor's appointment. It's awesome because it's chilly but the sky is blue and precious and that makes me smile. How more perfect can it get? =D

Nearly 3 years after getting my medical license as a physician, I finally thought of getting me a Parker Jotter pen and have my name engraved. Sadly, my name can't fit, thus I chose to have my surname engraved instead.

I must say, it looks good alongside a prescription pad and my Littmann Cardiology III stethoscope that I happen to have engraved my name as well.

A few days ago I went to the cardiologist to have a preventive checkup. When the doctor examined me with his stethoscope I knew exactly what would be my next MOC and with what pieces I would build it. When I got home I built it on a 1: 1 scale and I could almost hear my heartbeat when I tried to listen to my heart.

This is the vasculature of an actual heart (porcine heart, identical to human heart). The blood is replaced by a plastic substance which fills all of the veins, capillaries, etc, then the heart is put into a solution that dissolves all the tissue, leaving this incredible detail of a heart. My boss was given this to use as a model (he is a cardiologist).

Being a good source of potassium, niacin, vitamin B6 and folate, apparently tomatoes are good for the heart!

I took this photo back in the autumn last year with tomatoes and oregano from the garden :-) but haven't posted it until now. Part of me is thinking maybe I should have removed the green tops so the heart was only red but I wanted it to be obvious that it is tomatoes and not just red balls LOL!
