This happened after a few days in my job as car detailer. After the first layer peeled off, everthing was good for a week. Now the acid starts to eat the new first layer.
Women car owners are particular on the cleanliness of their cars but unlike men car owners, there are some habitual actions that women do not know they are actually damaging their car. Here are some helpful tips that women are unaware of.
• If your car upholstery is light colored such as white or beige, avoid using dark colored jeans for the coloring or dyes of your clothing will rub off in the upholstery which might become a permanent stain.
• Women are unaware that lotions and make up can ruin the car’s interior and upholstery. Always ensure that your hands are free from make-up particles. Most of the stain from the cars owned by women came from the lotions and make up. Sometimes these stains remain permanent when they are not removed as soon as it occurred. Stains that have remained for an extended period of time on materials such as plastic, vinyl and leather can ruin the car’s interior.
• Women should avoid driving with bare legs and arms for the body’s natural oil and the lotion used will stick to the car’s upholstery. This is an unsightly spot inside the car.
• Areas like the steering wheel, door handles and resting points have lots of thick make up build up that may require lots of time and effort to remove these stains. Once cleaned, it will still leave the area with marking of the stain.
• Driving in sliding position is not an advisable driving position. Aside from that it also wears off the seating area. Always drive in a seating position instead of sliding position for it does not only extend the life of the driver’s seat but it is also a must for safe driving.
• When alighting in your car, do not kick the door panel which is a common practice when opening the door. This will damage the covers of the door panel and car speaker if this is a habitual habit in getting in and out of the car.
• Avoid driving with high heels on, fort the heels will cause the hole in the carpet or floor mats. The heels have the tendency to dig and pass it through the carpet or floor mats.

Car detailing – Clay Bar or Not?
Clay bar when it comes to car detailing falls under the category car cleaning. This is the removal of the contaminants that are pasted on the car paint. Though some do not consider this as necessary before waxing the car, you have to remove the particles as a result of dirt and air pollution. You will have to remove this or else this will accumulate as pollution is an ongoing process.
Facts about Clay Bars
• Clay bars are perfect in getting rid of the surface contaminants which is commonly called “fall-out”
• Clay bars are used in maintaining a smooth and clean surface before waxing is
• Clay bars should be done regularly to keep of the pollutants from accumulating
Clay bars that are used in car detailing are small palm sized brick which looks like a Play doh. This is considered as part of correct maintenance of the car paint. This is done as a preparation for waxing. This is used mainly to remove all the fall-out, air borne pollution, rail dust, paint overspray and exhaust gases. The contaminants are often seen as tiny particles that are glued to the car paint. Often times there is a need for lubricants so that the clay bar will not stick to the car paint when rubbing on it but there are clay bars that have lubricants. The clay bar is rubbed back and forth of the surface the car until all the particles that are glued to the car paint are removed. If you do not clay bar the car paint before waxing, the pollutants will be pushed in the car paint which is not recommended in car detailing.
Since cars are exposed to the different kinds of pollutants, removing all the contaminants and pollutants should be a continuing process every time the car will undergo waxing. Washing and waxing alone won’t get rid of the fall-out. The longer you prolong removing the fall-out; it will continue to push in the car paint deeper. Some choose not to use clay bar for it will cause scratching in the car paint.
The truth is in reality car paints are made up very minute and fine scratches. Professionals choose clay bar instead of the pollutants that keep on being embedded in their car paint. Wax is meant to fill in the minute fine scratches, scuffs and other imperfections. You can choose between these two the continuous presence of contaminants that keep on embedding your car paint or you want to endure the very fine scratches on the car paint.

• Use synthetic polymer in your base coat for maximum protection of the car paint. This can be done every six to twelve months and more often if you are in a harsh environment.
• You don’t have to go into trouble of removing the old wax before putting on the new wax even if you have a polymer sealant.
• Paste wax is the most effective among the other forms car wax. There are paste waxes in the market that produce shiny and shimmery results.
• Spray wax may be a good option as well.
• Clay bars is used for smooth and silky paint finish which should be done every two or six months depending on the place where you live and the quality of the air.
When applying the wax as part of the car detailing process, do not allow to remain it standing for more than 5 to 8 minutes before applying it in a side to side motion. Do not apply it in a circular motion for it will result in swirls. Apply wax only on a cool surface and not on a hot surface for this will cause melting and evaporation of the wax which will leave an unsightly mark and always use a pre-damped applicator pad before you start waxing.
Detailing the Car Engine
The most difficult task of car detailing is the engine. This is a very tough and delicate job especially when cars nowadays are equipped with computer system and lots of hose attachments everywhere in the engine area.
- To be extra careful, you so should cover all the sensitive parts with a heavy duty aluminum foil. Do not point the spray washer directly to the sensitive parts or you might damage this part or make a hole in the foil. If you do not have pressure washer, you can just make use of the hose.
- Apply the degreaser which can be bought commercially or you can use the kerosene mixture (50/50 water and kerosene solution). Apply this to the engine while still warm (not hot) before wetting the engine for water will lessen the strength of the cleaning process. Stubborn deposits in the different parts of the engine should be cleaned using a pointed brush. This process could be repeated until the engine is completely clean. Instead of the kerosene mixture, there are degreasing agents that are eco-friendly and priced cheap found in any home supply shops.
- Rinse the engine well.
- Start the car and put the hood down so that the moisture will evaporate quickly.
- Use a shop vac to blow off the remaining moisture and degrease the part with a rag that you have cleaned earlier.
- The engine is now ready for rubber dressing and use of silicone works best in this area. Spray all the parts except then belts. You can also spray the painted areas. Spraying with silicone will leave a shiny look to what is inside the hood. If it’s not your style to have a shiny looking engine, you can always wipe the silicon after leaving it for a while. STP protectant works best here if applied liberally.
Some people that are into car detailing on his own car or for business purposes paint some parts of the motor but then in due time it will just flake off and will give you another thing to clean on your next car detailing session. The silicone alone will give your car engine an appearance that is good as new. Some will use brass brushes and steel wool in removing the dirt and grease in the engine. This is usually done for the cars that are for display in the car shows.

o Carpet steam cleaning is not recommended in car detailing of interior. The floor mats will take a new weathered look after steam cleaning and at the same time it takes long to dry.
When it comes to waxing in car detailing, paste wax is highly recommended for it can hide the flaws of the car better than the wax spray or the liquid form. Synthetic chamois is much preferred by car detailers and the California dusters in getting rid of dust is a better choice. There are car washing detergent in the market but the preference of the many is using liquid dish washing detergents. It is a common notion that the more water and soap suds the cleaner the car will be when actually the implication is different. It means lots of work. Imagine removing all the soap suds, naturally, it will mean more water to consume. Dressings may not be a good option for your car interior for it only creates thick and sticky layer of dust.
