Using blunt pencils annoys me, but I don’t want to keep sharpening them. So, the perfect solution is a mechanical pencil with a fine lead that’s always sharp. HMM💎
This wonderful spot is unmarked but very near the Carbon River entrance to Rainier. There is a terrific spot for a picnic to the left of this totally in the shade.
I took a dozen shots of this place and never felt that I got the scene so to the shelf they went. Go find this place for yourself, as cool as this shot is, it doesn't do it justice.
The map marker is a rough guess, there is a small bridge over this stream so it should be easyish to find.
please push 'L' ..... :-)

These were at the bottom of the Nature Trail by the signpost.
There are several carvings and sculptures that can be seen on the two pathways to the two lakes.
Coedydd Maentwrog, on the north side of the Vale of Ffestiniog, is the largest wood in the Vale. The national nature reserve consists of two separate sections: Coed Llyn Mair, and a group of three forests.
A pencil lead consists of a part graphite and a part clay. The hardness of a pencil is determined by the composition of these components. Pencils with a lot of clay and little graphite have a higher hardness than pencils with little clay and a lot of graphite.
Pencils have codes that indicate the hardness. HB is an average office pencil. 9H is very hard (a lot of clay and little graphite) and 9B is very soft (a lot of graphite and little clay).
Pencils with a high degree of hardness are extremely suitable for very fine drawing, with thin lines such as technical drawing. The softer pencils are especially popular among artists for sketching, for example for creating shadows and dark areas.

Your vision connects you to the earth and all that it contains. To stop and gaze upon the simplicity and complexity of this world is to merge with it, not to the extent of losing your identity in that merging of a moment in time, but to recognise that in the carbons and atoms of all creation, there is an interconnected life.
The King Stone at Garry Beach, with its crystal heart of quartz, is one of these natural monuments which seem to reflect that reciprocity of man and nature. We gaze upon it, touch it and feel its touch upon our own souls. 'Here I stand upon shifting sands and rolling waves, yet I will not be moved'.
Anthracite, also known as hard coal and black coal, is a hard, compact variety of coal that has a submetallic lustre. It has the highest carbon content, the fewest impurities, and the highest energy density of all types of coal and is the highest ranking of coals.
OK, not sure I’m feeling my other shot, maybe a case over concept over style so I’ve re shot after raiding a very old bag of BBQ charcoal.
Having wrapped up their work at Yuengling's relatively new (circa 2003) brewery Reading and Northern train PNPV (Port Clinton to Pottsville) is wyeing their power on the St. Clair Running Track at about MP 1.5 at the former Reading location known as Mill Creek Junction. Once they've rearranged their equipment as necessary they'll couple up to the empy hoppers from Yuengling and start toward Cressona Yard to gather up the rest of their train with this nice pair of classic EMD end cab switchers from decidedly different eras, RBMN 1542 (MP15DC blt. Apr. 1982 as Southern 2426) and 803 (SW8 blt. Sep. 1951 as Lehigh Valley 270).
Interestingly I was totally unaware of the astonishing railroad history in this area until after I got these photos and began to wonder what prompted the massive concrete infrastructure I found here. Well it turns out that the bridge the train is on was once a double track mainline and the present day end of track at the brewery sits at the south throat of what was once billed as the "largest coal classification yard in the world" when the Reading expanded its yard and shop complex in 1913. Stretching over a mile and half from end to end, there were 63 tracks that covered 46.5 miles, with a capacity for 2,861 cars, and a 42 track complete circular roundhouse. At one time more than 1200 men employed in the yards but by the 1960s the anthracite market had shriveled and the shops and roundhouse were closed and then the rail yard was finally shuttered until the bankrupt RDG sold off the property for an industrial park. What little track remained at the coming of Conrail, including the out of service line north up Frackville grade was all removed by around 1980 until this short stretch was relaid including the wye over these arch bridges crossing the Schuylkill River that have the year 1912 cast in the crumbling concrete.

The lighthouse on Cape Carbon was built in 1907, and at 220m above sea level is the highest natural lighthouse in the world.
The courthouse in downtown Red Lodge Montana, designed by Butte architect P. J. Donahue , was built in 1899 to replace its predecessor that had been destroyed by fire. Situated at the busy northern end of the commercial district, the building today provides an excellent example of restrained, classically proportioned public building design. When foundation settling after construction produced a wide crack on the northeast wall, fear of collapse caused rapid evacuation of the courtroom on several occasions before it was stabilized in the 1940s. Despite numerous alterations and additions, the courthouse retains its prominence as a sturdy reminder of the town’s role as the political and economic center of Carbon County and its ranching and mining communities.
