“Welcome, welcome to Caraval! The grandest show on land or by sea. Inside you’ll experience more wonders than most people see in a lifetime. You can sip magic from a cup and buy dreams in a bottle. But before you fully enter into our world, you must remember it’s all a game. What happens beyond this gate may frighten or excite you, but don’t let any of it trick you. We will try to convince you it’s real, but all of it is a performance. A world built of make-believe. So while we want you to get swept away, be careful of being swept too far away. Dreams that come true can be beautiful, but they can also turn into nightmares when people won’t wake up.”

― Stephanie Garber, Caraval

This early 15th century 'Caraval' carries the name 'Orion Star' and is used for the transport of goods along the Mediterranean trade routes.

In 1486 Florence and Venice had widely accepted trade agreements and benefit of each others reach within the ever expanding worldwide trade routes.

Apart from creating the shape of this ship, the sails and the color scheme, the real challenge was to recreate the symbol of florence; the iconic fleur de lis.

Personally, I think this worked out pretty well 😁

Some background story;

I chose this type of ship because it fits within the time frame and the characteristics of the venice laguna of that time (not deep and many sandbanks).

The caravel had a stern rudder and a raised forecastle and sterncastle. Caravels had a typical length-to-beam ratio of 3.5:1 with a shallow draught. It was also highly manoeuvrable and fast. All of these characteristics made the caravel ideal for exploring unfamiliar waters and coastal shallows where larger ships might easily have become stranded on sandbanks or damaged by rocks.

Let me know what you think and thx for stopping by 🙌

La Isla de los Tiburones used to be a major lighthouse for the entrance into the Caraval domain's waterways, but has since fallen into disrepair, and is all but forgotten. The perfect place to stash away a dissident princess and her guard.

I seem to either be doing retakes or remakes lately, so this is a remake of my old little tower.

Also yellow lighting...

Also also had some help from Tekka Croe on this one.

How beautiful is this boy?

he came to WHF as a youngster from Longleat

this was taken on an outing with friends to WHF in Kent

where they have a breeding program with the rest of the world exchanging cats, this way there is no inter breeding, then released back into the wild.

Sorry not been on as my computer decided it had had enough!! all better again, ... for the moment!

I decided that the Old, decrepit Caraval could use some sprucing up, and a larger base.

The total time for this from ripping up the old tower to putting the last piece was just over 1 day.

I spent the day being everywhere at once. From 8am I was running around sorting technology and herding dancers and tidying up after dancers and collecting a car-full of lunch and being a responsible adult and painting faces and pretending I did not wish I was one of the dancers on stage and vocalising the fact that I was grateful that I was not on stage. I was message carrier and gofer. I wore through a pair of socks (one of them has a hole about an inch and a half in diameter where there was no hole when I put it on – my feet are now filthy).

And I am annoyed, because I saw so many photo opportunities, and every time I had somewhere else I was needed more.

Thirteen plus hours standing on my feet and I want to curl up with a hot water bottle and Caraval and a nice candle. I think what I might do is just sleep.

I needed a castle fix while working on my Sci-Fi, so I made a fun little castle tower at the same time as I was building my Tentacle

Me? Building Castle? Absurd.

Depicted here is Rasheed the Laughing Merchant, who spends every spring traveling through the Caraval domain. (Sorry, Kevin, I'll link to it as soon as MOCpages stops being stupid.)

I was bored, and figured I'd give Castle a try. I tried it, and I liked it, and there may be more in the future.

The Isla used to guide major shipping lines into the harbors of Caraval, but alas, the kingdom has fallen far, and like its monarch, the isle has fallen from grace.
