what are we doing out here in the woods, herr doktor?
it's my latest experiment, my boy.
what's it about?
it's very simple. all you have to do is drive the car around that bend.
that's all? what's over there?
you'll see. put this radio headphone on. now go!
ok doktor, I'm around the bend. what now?
any second you will encounter my new invention: metal-eating nanobots!
oh my god! what are these things?! there must be millions of them!
isn't it exciting? they'll devour the vehicle in mere seconds!
the car! t's disappearing! what about me doktor?
they'll hardly notice you, my boy! they eat everything in sight!
me too?
yes! hah hah! I can see those giant government contracts now!
but. . . mommy!
try to save the headphones, boy. waste not, want not, I always say.
momm. . . . !
The man like Delarge is a giant- whom I owe many favours for building my website and easing my constant technical difficulties. This is a shoot i did tonight to return some of the love. Assisted by Matt, stylin/hair and MakeUp by Stevi and Emma, model is the wonderful Carly. T-shirt of course is by Delarge.
On a walk around the city early evening in July, Christchurch New Zealand 2018.
Quake City tells stories of heroism, hope and loss from the Canterbury earthquakes. This special exhibition from Canterbury Museum explains the science and the phenomenon of liquefaction – when the shaking liquefied the ground and it bubbled up burying street and sinking buildings. Quake City charts the aftermaths of the September 2010 and 22 February 2011 earthquakes and the extraordinary response of the emergency services, international rescue teams, the thousands of volunteers who pitched in to help – construction workers, the Student Volunteer Army, the Farmy Army – and the incredible resilience of Canterbury’s communities. Exhibition includes some of the objects which have defined the Canterbury earthquakes including the spire of ChristChurch Cathedral and the railway station clocks which stopped at 12.51 pm on 22 February 2011. The rebuild section of the exhibition brings the visitor up to date with progress in regenerating the city and the recovery projects underway.
Surf rolling onto the beaches on the west side of Dunnet Bay, the sky keeps threatening rain, but instead we get the odd shaft of sunshine between the clouds. Its very mild, 11.5°C according to the car, T-shirt weather! Forecast is for snow at the end of the week!

This year I took part in a Railroad Secret Santa with 17 other train builders. I was really excited to participate this year - last year I helped administrate and run the event, but couldn't actually join because I was moving.
My recipient this year was Matt D, a fan of New Haven and Interurban rail. Boy, did I have a tough time finding something good! Being a southwestern guy, I've never really known much about New Haven, other than that they were early and prolific adopters of electrification.
I went through a lot of ideas for what to build, and even digitally designed a few things, but none of them had that unique feel to them. After a lot of searching around I found a couple pictures of one of the oddest cars I've seen - a passenger car with a flat wooden platform sat stop the clearstory. It seems New Haven did this with a variety of old cars to turn them into maintenance cars for their overhead lines. While looking into these, I found a picture of Tower Car T-13. It seemed to be about the right size and was certainly a unique shape.
Getting the cross beams and upper platform worked out was a challenge, but a fun one.
I had a great time at Houston's Supercar Saturday last weekend, and saw some amazing cars. Here's an awesome G T OHH about to be passed by a 16M.

An 8-car T-Set Tangara approaches Scarborough Station with an evening Bondi Junction to Thirroul service. The front two cars of the train are locked off at Waterfall, with the train continuing to Wollongong after some time at Thirroul.
It was well and truly dark, wet and windy when this train arrived, but with this service to be changed to an OSCar run in the near future, we felt it was required...
With the run over the Hanover Subdivision complete, train W003 is parked for the weekend on South 6 Yard track at Hagerstown Yard in Hagerstown, MD May 23, 2024. In the background a yard crew has just pulled a track of cars t switch. To the right of locomotive 9969 was once the approach tracks to the Western Maryland's Hagerstown roundhouse and shops.

Taken in 1960
The LT Chesham Shuttle in the winter sun, in February 1960. Hauled by a push-pull fitted LMS/BR 2p 2-6-2T, with carriages dating back to the 19th century.. The fourth-rail has already been laid, ready for electrification.
The carriages are ex-Metropolitan Railway 'Ashbury' stock, originally steam-hauled, and later converted to electric units, and later still converted for push-pull operation, as seen here. The louvered compartment once used for the electrical equipment is still in place, on the furthest carriage.
The steam shuttle ended in September 1960, and was replaced by 3-car T Stock units, but these were later replaced by the new A Stock, which was run as a 4-car set for the shuttle service.
The impending introduction of the new S Stock saw this shuttle service discontinued in December 2010, as this stock could not be split into shorter trains. Today (2024) S Stock units run through here direct to Baker Street and Aldgate East..
Another vanished sight - the smog of smoke from all the coal fires in the houses in the distance..
Four of these carriages were sold to the then-new Bluebell Railway, where they were later restored back to loco-hauled teak condition, and one was preserved by LT, restored to EMU teak condition...
Restored from an under-exposed cyan-colour-shifted original..
