I found this photo in the archive while looking for an image to insert into my ebook. I instantly thought to myself, "wow... this would look great with a little Topaz Simplify added to it," so I decided to take a little breather from the ebook to process this photo. Came out pretty cool huh? Needs to be viewed large to get a better appreciation of it.

I've been a very bad blogger. I haven't posted anything in about a week. Normally I post daily, but in the past couple months I've had to slow down because of the ebook, which has been taking up a good portion of my time from my blog. But the good news is, it's almost done! I'm now working on the last couple of pages of the final chapter. So far I'm on schedule, but I'm not sure how long it's gonna take to proofread an edit the final copy. I will announce the release of the book in the monthly newlstter. Sign up for the newsletter if you haven't already done so to get the latest update.
As for this photo, I did a few things different. Instead of the normal three exposures, I used only 2. And instead of using Detail Enhancer, I used Exposure Fusion for tone mapping. But the secret to this photo wasn't in Photomatix, it was in Photoshop. I used shadow/highlights to bring out the detail in the pier and foreground. I also used my normal Photoshop processing techniques to put in the finishing touches. I discuss all this in more detail within the ebook.

Very minimal processing done on this nighttime HDR photo of the Lake Worth Pier. When I say minimal... I mean I didn't spend much time working on it, and that was the goal. Usually I take my time when processing my photos, but since I don't have much time, I got this done quick. Took me less than 10 mintues to do and I'm pretty impressed with it considering the time spent.
I might have processed it fast, but I did spend a little time experimenting. Instead of using Detail Enhancer to tone map this photo, I actually used Exposure Fusion. This was my second time using this tone mapping method, and I really like the way it creates more subtle HDR photos. I also brought back in one of the original exposure while in Photoshop, which was the under exposed photo, and blended it into the HDR image. That added an even more natural look to it. Then I finished the photo off with my Captain Kimo Photoshop Action, and bam, done! Of course I did do some layer masking and what not but that was pretty much it ;-)
