Again today six years ago...
Never before I heard of Capitol Reef...the second part of my life I won't forget it...Impressive, massive, spooky and lightning all the time we were there...
the monoliths of Cathedral Valley seem to have a mystical aura in the fading sunlight. The ones seen here are in the same area as the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon.
At the end of the long drive to Capitol Reef, we were rewarded with a dramatic sky and the refreshing scent of light rain in Redrock country, a fine beginning for our Spring camping trip with our kids.
Capitol Reef National Park is the least visited of the Big 5 Utah National Parks. That is not because it lacks in absolutely stunning views and landscapes. We stayed close to the park and I was able to make multiple visits during the twilight hour for sunset / moon rise pictures
A smooth ride through a rocky desert. Looking down this time into Capitol Reef, UT.
If you look carefully you will see that the greyish covering over the rocks hides in most places their red/orange color. This covering is a type of clay/ash once laid down by a volcano. I believe the substance is bentonite clay.
