Lifelong at their new Broadway location which is about a thousand times larger than the old location. I like that they brought the old Chicken Soup Brigade sign.
Lived here back in the mid-70's when Capitol Hill was cheap rent. Easy to walk or bus everywhere.
Four bedrooms. Big kitchen, back garden. We had a group house of 3 adults and 3 kids. My bedroom was the one in front over the living room bay window.
The owner sold it in '81 so we had to move. Moved to the Central District.
I'm not sure if the current owner is the one who bought back then but they have done a nice job fixing it up.
Was yellow when we lived there, now painted blue.
The fence was added, windows replaced and the front porch was turned into an enclosed room. The front yard has those shrubs now. Our back garden is gone and a patio was put in.
I don't know how different the inside is. Except I know the kitchen was worked on ages ago as a friend bought the amazing old footed enamel sink, with 2 sinks, built in backsplash and draining platform.
That maple tree is huge now.
One page of the 1978 permit application for the Broadway Clock Shop at 231 Broadway East in Seattle. It includes a sketch of the faux clock sign, made out of solid wood with raised letters.
From Seattle Department of Construction and Inspection's Microfiche Library, in the permit files for 229-235 Broadway East.
