That guy stood there patiently for whole 5 minutes. I guess, he liked being photographed.

A historic landmark, the Cape Florida Lighthouse was built on the southern tip of Key Biscayne in 1825, making it the oldest building in the Miami area. The lighthouse still stands, having survived many Indian attacks and the devastating force of many hurricanes.

Another one of the shots I took with Ivan's camera before he "stole my shot"*. For this picture I used a 3 exposure HDR for the sky and sand and the 0EV single RAW exposure processed in Lightroom for the water.

Normally I like to stand in the water when taking shots of the lighthouse, but the water was very choppy due to the frequent storms we get here these days. I was too worried to get knocked over and drown Ivan's camera. Again the detail you can capture with the 5D Mark II just amazes me. In the original file you can see the sea grass floating around in the water.

If you have a moment, please have a look at the view on black or larger view.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park occupies approximately the southern third of the island of Key Biscayne. The park is home to the Cape Florida Light, the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. In 2005 it was listed as having the 8th best beach in the country. Located inside Bill Baggs State Park was completed in 1825. It was damaged during the 2nd Seminole War. The repaired lighthouse was completed in 1846. The island was used by runaway slaves and Black Seminoles as a secret meeting place while waiting for ships to escape to the British Bahamas. In 2004 it was placed on the National Underground Network to Freedom site. It still remains the oldest standing structure in Miami.

I needed some sunshine... so I started digging in the archives and actually processing shots taken a few weeks ago. I took this 3 weeks ago, on probably one of the last sunny days we had here. I was actually disappointed that there weren't more clouds. And now all we get are clouds, rain clouds, storm clouds... I guess it's never right.

Will upload a few more shots from this outing to Bill Baggs and surroundings... unless the weather should miraculously improve and I can go out tomorrow.

This is my first shot taken with the 5D Mark II - thanks so much, Ivan, I had fun shooting with it. Now I really want one...

It actually doesn't look too different from what I probably could have some up with with my 40D - at this small size that is. I looked at the shots on my PC and was blown away, not just by the amazing quality but also by the detail in the wide angle shots. If there would have been any ants, you could have counted them in this shot taken at 16 mm.

Yesterday, as I mentioned earlier, went down to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, to photograph the sunrise - the last before the time change as we "fall back". It was a very early morning, but it was a gorgeous one.

The shooting began with some images of the Cape Florida Lighthouse in the moonlight, with the stars out and about. It was very beautiful indeed ... just us, the moonlight, the stars, the lighthouse, the waves crashing nearby .... and tons of sand fleas to make us keenly aware that we weren't dreaming. :-)

Once the pre-sunrise images were over and the light from the sun on the horizon became too hot, I turned to find some other perspective to photograph.

To me, this image really represents Florida and its infamous beaches. It's funny because if you tried to get an image from the front side, the beaches were lined with trash cans which were not the most photogenic of "finishing touches". Not only were they distracting, but in south Florida, they are almost always chained in place (no joke).

The day was also unusually calm regarding the winds, so the trees and shrubs were remaining still. As I mentioned before, I tend to present images from our travels and the wildlife and mountain scenes that we visit, but every so often I love to share my home ... south Florida. Hope that you all like it as much as I do.

Thanks so much for stopping by to view and especially for your thoughts and comments.
