Variable capacitor from a detector radio (radio of the early days), made by the secretary's great-grandfather around 1920. (In a "classic" analogue radio, a variable capacitor is used to set the station or frequency, respectively.)
Kopfhöreranschluss mit parallelgeschaltetem Kondensator in einem Detektorradio (Radio der Anfangszeit), hergestellt von meinem Urgrossvater in den 1920er Jahren. (Bemerkung: Die Kapazitätsangabe in cm beruht auf dem Gaußsche Einheitensystem, welches wiederum zum CGS- Einheitensystem (Zentimeter Gramm Sekunde) gehört. Eine Kapazität von 1cm entspricht 1.2pF).

Headphone terminal with parallel connected capacitor in a detector radio (radio of the early days), made by my great-grandfather in the 1920s. (Note: The capacitance in cm is based on the Gaussian unit system, which in turn belongs to the CGS unit system (centimeter gram second). A capacitance of 1cm corresponds to 1.2pF)
The 5 prong flux capacitor....we are going to the future!!! Okay it is really just 5 LED mini lights in a glass tray, 2-3/4 inch square frame.
'Where's the Flux Capacitor?' I thought this title seemed appropriate for this shot. Gauges and copper galore, this is the German Still (or part of) at the Ironworks Micro Distillery - her name is Berghitte. I cannot tell you how good this place smells!

A capacitor, for macro mondays I often look in my husband's stock for a subject. :-)

No it is not the flux capacitor Marty, but it is a orderly row of capacitors, orange on green is always a good thing!
The capacitors in this "tree" were used to regulate the voltage in the 13.8 kV high-current electrical feeds for the Fermilab main ring. It hasn't been used in a number of years, is in a state of disrepair and may soon be torn down.

The Capacitor tree at the Fermilab Master Substation.
At one point in time, I believe that it was used for power factor correction for the lab, though it is no longer in use. There is talk of having it removed, so i figured I would try and get out as it was a nice night and take some photos.
Somewhat inspired by Mark Kaletka's HDR from a similar perspective.

Vanaf 1946 decennialang honderden mensen bij Philips dochter Elcoma condensatoren en folie produceerden. Elcoma, In 1975 werken hier ongeveer 820 mensen en was Philips één van de grote werkgevers in de provinciehoofdstad. In 1988 werd de fabriek overgenomen door BCcomponents en in 2004 door Vishay, waarna de naam gewijzigd is in Vishay BCcomponents. Op het einde in 2011 werkten er nog slechts 70 mensen. In 2016 zijn alle productieafdelingen gestopt en overgebracht naar China. Hal voor hal verhuurt Jansen Vastgoed aan nieuwe gegadigden.

The former building of Philips in Zwolle
From 1946 hundreds of people at Philips subsidiary Elcoma produced capacitors and foils for decades. Elcoma, In 1975 about 820 people were employed here and Philips was one of the major employers in the provincial capital. In 1988 the factory was taken over by BCcomponents and in 2004 by Vishay, after which the name was changed to Vishay BCcomponents. At the end of 2011, only 70 people were still employed. In 2016 all production departments were stopped and transferred to China. Jansen Vastgoed leases hall by hall to new candidates.
An Asus A7N8X Deluxe computer motherboard displays evidence that the magic has left home.
Note the leakage on the three capacitors...five more just out of view at the top of the frame look the same. This has been the cause of several random reboots and shutdowns on our MythTV server over the past month or so (actually, these issues seemed to happen right after "Days of Our Lives" recorded for Amy each day.
This board has served well though...it has been at the heart of the MythTV box for five years and was the core of my main workstation for nearly three years prior to that.
In a display of the beauty that is Linux, the Myth box was back in business on a new machine within 15 minutes.

MacroMonday theme Inside Electronics. Just so happens I was building a new Nelson Pass F5 Mosfet Power Amplifier (some here may know them) and had the two Power Supplies built and tested, so just powered one up and clicked this shot for this weeks theme!
I must add some of the finished amp images here too!
The reflection behind the LED is the side of a large Capacitor and I cleaned the dust as much as I could but it kept coming back onto it.
The image is about two inches by a little over an inch high!

Macro Monday – theme: inside electronics
Less than 0.75-inch across that row of surface-mount resistors and capacitors
Drove in to work last Thursday, and saw that the capacitor tree was just a couple tangled tubes anchored to the ground.
One of the coolest functional art pieces at the lab, though in recent years it had been relegated to simply art.

This weeks theme on #FlickrFriday, #BacktotheFuture. Dr. Emmett Brown was on to something the day he hit his head and came up with the Flux Capacitor. Now if only he could find the 1.21 Gigawatts of power necessary to power his Flux Capacitor, time travel would be possible. So following Ohms Law, Dr Brown would soon realize that voltage x amperage would = 1.21 Gigawatts.
