Juliet’s Log - Monday 9th
Visited Collioure today which turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Took the unusual decision of going on a boat trip from there to Argeles, back to Collioure, Port Vendres, Banyuls Bay and back. At a cost of €20 and about 30 min of the 1 1/2 hours sitting in ports picking up passengers we thought it a bit of a rip off but pleasant nevertheless. The coastline was not as pretty as Cornwall. Had the doubtful pleasure of seeing a lot of small fish (possibly anchovy) being brought to the surface by food. The town was exceptionally busy and parking a nightmare
Bought some anchovies in the town and returned for a swim.
Me and my Mum just call these little guys "Black Caps". We had to look up that they were called Chickadees. Hard to get good shots of them because they move so quickly and usually there is more than one which means they are always fighting amongst each other for the best spot on the feeders. In this one he/she is staring at the other one ready to swoop in to claim his/her spot.

Fouesnant (Fouenant or Fouen in Breton) is a commune in Finistère department of the region of Brittany in north-western France.
It lies on the south coast of Finistère, and is bordered by the communes of: Bénodet and Pleuven to the west; Saint-Évarzec to the north; and La Forêt-Fouesnant to the east. It has 15 km of coastline on its south side, with a long beach running west between the headlands of Beg-Meil and Mousterlin, as well as the idyllic Cap-Coz just to the east at the top of the Baie de la Foret, making it a popular tourist destination. The town is at the heart of a very fertile area, is well-endowed with orchards and is regarded as the source of the very best Breton cider. Every July this is celebrated with the 'Fete des Pommiers' (Festival of the Apple Trees), an event that takes over the town centre with music, dance and various competitions. Fouesnant hosts a popular street market in and around the town square every Friday morning.

I made this hat last night using a pattern found on Ravelry. I did struggle a bit with the brim... I'm not sure if the pattern was unclear or if I read it wrong... but it was a bit traumatic... Once I had finished the whole hat, the brim was a bit wonky... but never mind.
The pattern called for a yarn that doesn't seem to be available in Australia, so I ended up using a strand of Bendigo Woollen Mills Rustic 8ply and a strand of Bendigo Woollen Mills Alpaca 8ply together. So it's quite a chunky knit. I plan on making the hat again, but with some modifications so that the brim application is much easier and won't be wonky (hopefully!). Also, it turned out a smidgen too small, so I will try to make it a touch bigger next time.

Antibes, France.
There was a storm passing over as I passed by Charmouth this week and I only had my Iphone with me, so please forgive the image quality, but it just had to be captured.
It was chucking it down over the sea just off Golden Cap, and there was actually a double rainbow but the phone couldn't pick it up very well.
Lesson: always carry your camera with you.
Beautiful scenery at the Northern most tip of the island. Would have preferred some sun as well, but the clouds also nicely fit the dramatic landscape.

Here is an image of Cap Canaille, which dominates over the town of Cassis, near to Les Calanques. The photo was taken in the early evening from one of the beaches, which I think gives the photo a quite nice light, and as this is of course Provence in summer, the sky is perfectly clear. Taken in the evening, a lot of the tourists had gone leaving the picture quite free of people and swimmers. Though I am unsure of this, I think I remember reading somewhere that Cap Canaille is that red shade because it was made of the same type of rock that is commonly found in Corsica and parts of Sardinia, which can also be seen with the distinctive red shade there. There is a famous painting of the headland by Paul Signac.
