This was one of many areas in Hotel Dar Bergui, a lovely boutique hotel on the outskirts of Ouarzazate, Morocco. Ouarzazate is a desert city in south central Morocco across the High Atlas Mountains from Marrakesh. It's known for CLA Studios where many famous films with desert scenes and Arabic architecture have been made and also the Cinema Museum.

The Flame-faced Tanager is one of the most spectacular members of the diverse and exceptionally colorful genus Tangara. Living up to its common name, the forehead begins as a deep glimmering red, shading into a brilliant yellow on the nape and sides of the head. This "flame" contrasts sharply with the jet black back. The Flame-faced Tanager is a common member in mixed species foraging flocks in the canopy of humid montane forest from the Andes of extreme southwest Venezuela south to central Peru. It forages exclusively along mossy branches and occasionally peering at the underside in search of arthropods. There are three subspecies of the Flame-faced Tanager, described based mostly on minor differences in plumage. The species is typically found from 1000-2600 m and is most numerous above 1500 m. The IUCN Red list assesses the Flame-faced Tanager as a species of Least Concern; however, the population size is declining due to habitat destruction. Thus, the Flame-faced Tanager should become the focus of future studies.

You can see why these sorts of trees have been prized by loggers. They are tall and straight, fast growing and really old ones can reach nearly 100 metres into the sky. Don't worry, these trees are safe and protected in the National Park. Given the cool alpine climate it is amazing that these trees grow so large. But they serve as protective cover for the small species of plants.
They also provide important and safe nesting places for bird species. If you enlarge this photo two clicks you can see why. As evergreens, their leaves remain to provide shelter from the wet in the cooler months and shade in the hotter months.
I am no botanist, but below is a link to two scientific papers that provide great detail on the distribution of these eucalypt species in Tasmania.

Looking up and under the canopy walkway to the 74ft observation tower at Myakka River State Park in Sarasota, FL. We enjoyed a sunrise view of the park from a different vantage point.
Just loved the dark mood softened by the light morning mist as I stood under the canopy at Whiteleaf, Buckinghamshire
I was probably more surprised than this Pileated Woodpecker when it was suddenly right in front of me as I walked through a wooded area. It did stay there while I took a couple of close range photos and kept walking. A high ISO shot from the darkness of the tree canopy.
Thank you for viewing
A Reddish Egret throws its wings forward over it's head to provide some protection from glare as it hunts in the shallow waters.
I don't do enough canopy shots and no particular reason why. For some reason I chose this moment to look up to admire the lush green growth and naturally take a shot. Part of the beautiful beech canopy at Whiteleaf, Buckinghamshire.

Piranga rubra -female- (Summer tanager / Piranga abejera)
The only completely red bird in North America, the strawberry-colored male Summer Tanager is an eye-catching sight against the green leaves of the forest canopy.
The mustard-yellow female is harder to spot, though both sexes have a very distinctive chuckling call note. Fairly common during the summer, these birds migrate as far as the middle of South America each winter.
This, too, is taken at the Pike's Peak State Park, located near McGregor, Iowa. This canopy of yellows and oranges were just so beautiful! I am so glad I made the trip down there. It was most enjoyable! Hope you all enjoy, as well!
