There was a small flock of goldfinch feeding along the side of the trail. This female decided that she wanted the seeds from the dandelion, but the head was too high to comfortably reach, so she hopped onto it, pushed it down to the ground and then stood on the stem to feed. Clever bird.

The workers in the steelworks, coking plant, etc. used to hang their clothes in so-called white chews (for clean private clothes) and black chews (for dirty work clothes) in baskets and on hooks with a chain to the ceiling. At the bottom, the chains were "anchored" and secured with a lock. This is the series of these "anchors".
This season is very good. There seems to be a large population this year. All of them are lightning fast making it very challenging.
Adult males are striking and distinctive: mostly glossy black with bright orange flashes on the wings, tail, and sides. Females and young males are duller gray and olive with yellow patches instead of orange. Habitually flicks and fans tail while foraging for insects. Breeds in mature deciduous forests, often near water. Migrants can be found in any wooded habitat. Fairly extensive winter range throughout most of Middle America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. Song is extremely variable. (eBird)

Found this lovely male Redstart searching through the leaves for a snack. A sudden swoop and there was a caterpillar in his bill. Didn't last long - four quick shots and it had disappeared down his throat. Yum!
