I finally managed to sneak down the Kukui Trail and found some nice clouds here at Waimea Canyon. Then the sun broke through clouds and cast some cool and interesting light over the landscape. After reviewing this photo, I wished I had taken out the 70-200 to pick the landscape apart piece by piece, but alas, Live and learn. :)

The chipmunks are definitely out an about, I keep telling them that there is not alot of food so they will have to eat smaller portions.......nope they don’t listen!!!
Here's my retake of Horseshoe bend that I mentioned in my last post.(Morning Light on Lake Powell) After checking out the campground at Lone Rock, I thought I would have enough time to check out the campground at Lee's Ferry 45 mins away. I had 2 1/2 hours to play with so I took a chance and headed off. About 25 mins into the drive I apparently passed a time zone and all of a sudden I only had 1 1/2 hours, this whole time zone situation really gets me sometimes. Most people don't realize (Including Myself) that Photopills cannot provide you with the correct time zone if it can't get a cellular signal so always compare the time in the app with the time on your phone. Lee's Ferry campground was a horrible place to camp. The wind is insane there, so much so, that the builders of the campgrounds actually built wind shelters in most of the campsites. They looked like the big set of ribs that the waitress in the ending of the flintstones cartoon carries out and sets on Freds car. I quickly bailed and made a rushed trip back to horseshoe bend, which I had 35 mins to do a 45 minute drive so I hammered the pedal on my 4x4 rental and raced back down Highway 89. About 15 mins from the bend on a long straight away I really started pushing it and hit 100 miles an hour. Just as the needle hit 100 an Arizona Highway Patrol pulled onto the road about 1000 feet ahead. I checked up on the brakes hard in an effort not to rearend the patrolman. Luckily he hadn't seen my maniacal pace but when he saw me coming up behind him he knew I was flying. He then set the pace for the next 10 miles at 55 mph, daring me to pass him. That was the longest 10 miles I've ever driven. I finally made it to the bend with 5 mins to spare, and Ran off down the sandy trail leading to the bend. I hadn't noticed that the clock on my phone recalculated and added the missing time back. So I actually had more time than I thought. As usual there was a throng of shooters lined up along the cliff's edge and luckily some of the more experienced shooters bailed after realizing the sun would not be a participant in the evening captures, so I quickly elbowed my way into the recently vacated spot to grab this shot. My prior trip here had absolutely blank skies so I had composed my shot omitting the sky completely. This time I was able to get "some" cloud drama to include in my shot. Hope you like it. :)

My Bob has had a rough week... last Thursday we had to rush him to the emergency vet because he was staining to make.... he was yowling all over the house, staining while he was walking.... the vet said his bladder was full and he had a blockage.... after flushing him out in both areas, we took him home... a few days and he still acted strange... constantly going in and out of the box and nothing... but then he did make and what a relief...
On Monday I took him to our vet and she did a lot of tests, even a urine culture.... thank goodness his levels are not bad and he's acting like his old self.... he is 17 years old!
She put him on an antibiotic for a week and I'm hoping that will also help him feel better.
It's so scary and heartbreaking when you know they don't feel well and they can't tell you what is wrong...
Thank God he is doing better... so we want to wish everyone a Happy Caturday and enjoy the rest of the weekend!!
I have 3 orchid plants from 2015 and they gift me with flowers every year.... and they last for such a long time!!
Very easy to grow... I give them a good drink every Saturday!!
There are three that are missing... August, who we bought last August and hid for a year, finally came out and is now eating and swimming with the big guys... and we just bought Fred & Barney.... now they are hiding, which is strange, but hope to see them soon...
I took a small section of this daylily from my son's house, years ago and it lives in a pot in my garden... and still surprises me with all her blooms!
I loved taking this photo because this female hummingbird kept flying around my head so I patiently waited until she landed on a birdfeeder to get this shot.
Happy Caturday...
I forgot to mention, on July 15th, Bob came into our lives and family, 17 years ago!!
at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge...
Established in 1947, Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge protects 2,550 acres on the south shore of Long Island. The refuge is bisected by the Carmans River, a New York state designated scenic river and one of the largest rivers on the island. Wertheim hosts a variety of habitats including oak-pine woodlands, grasslands and fresh, brackish and salt water wetlands. These habitats attract and support many types of wildlife including white-tailed deer, osprey, muskrat, fox, turtles, frogs and fish. The refuge also serves as a haven for waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors and songbirds. Wertheim is also home to the refuge complex headquarters and visitor center.
