The complex is named in honour of Timur's chief consort Saray Mulk Khanum (who is buried in the grounds of the Madrasa). It is also possible that it is named in honour of the mother of Timur's wife, Cano [Bibi Khanym].
Patron: Timur (or Tamerlane (Timur the Lame), Shuja-ud-din Timur) 1336-1405, was a Turco-Mongol conqueror who founded the Timurid Empire (which embraced what is now Afghanistan, Iran, and Central Asia), becoming the first ruler of the Timurid dynasty. An undefeated commander, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest military leaders and tacticians in history, as well as one of the most brutal. Timur is also considered a great patron of art and architecture as he interacted with intellectuals such as Ibn Khaldun, Hafez, and Hafiz-i Abru and his reign introduced the Timurid Renaissance.
Some historians assert that Timur's consort, Saray Mulk Khanum, was in fact the patron.
Saray Mulk Khanum c.1341-1408, was the empress consort of the Timurid Empire (r.c.1370-1405) as the chief consort of Timur. By birth, she was a princess of Moghulistan as a daughter of Qazan Khan ibn Yasaur (d.1346, ruler of the Chagatai Khanate (r.1343–1346)) and was also a direct descendant of Genghis Khan.

en realidad se estaba riendo mientras tomaba agua, pero en las fotos parece que estuviera posando de lo lindo
