Brass candlesconce designed by Ernest Gimson in 1906. The cut and chased decoration was relatively straightforward to do. The piece was made by Alfred Bucknell, Gimson's chief blacksmith, in 1919. It was a popular design, and continued to made for several years after Gimson's death. Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum owns another, made by Alfred's son, Norman. He refined and reduced the bold chasing used by his father on the earlier sconce, but in later life was unsure whether this was the right decision. CAGM1952.106

The one on the left was made by Alfred Bucknell in 1919, the one on the right by his son, Norman in about 1930-9. Subsequently Norman Bucknell was unsure whether he had been right to refine and reduce the bold chasing used by his father on the earlier sconce. CAGM.1952.106
This wrought iron and ceramic tile candle sconce was made at the Porsgrund factory in Norway and designed by well-known Norwegian ceramicist, Konrad Galaaen (1923-2004). Unmarked, it was found in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Mild stripper used - it's taking it off! The edge shows that the teak is plywood layers and THAT edge retains a darker pigmentation from the black paint, but it still looks GREAT!

The teak strips well and I found out that they can be gently removed from the chrome for stripping. This is to show the difference.
