I love to walk alongside the Canal....Its only a short walk of a couple of miles, but there are always so many opportunities for photographs.

The Rochdale Canal is in Northern England, between Manchester and Sowerby Bridge, part of the connected system of the canals of Great Britain. Its name refers to the town of Rochdale through which it passes. The Rochdale is a broad canal because its locks are wide enough to allow vessels of 14 feet width. Wikipedia

The canal is 32 miles long and was used for the transportation of goods between Manchester and Sowerby Bridge before the birth of the Railways in the 1840's.

The Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal

From the Inland Waterways website:- "Opened on 1st May 1815, the Northampton Arm travels through 17 locks and connects the Grand Union canal with the River Nene in Northampton."

The stretch is around 4.5 miles in length, and contains 17 locks. About one every quarter of a mile.

Another local walk, along the Chesterfield canal between Kiveton and Shireoaks,,,,, May 2020

One aspect of the canal boating lifestyle is to name your boat , often in a very individual manner...as appears to be the case for this shocking pink one.

Nearing the end of my sojourn along the canal in Chester city centre.

Old boat by the canal. The redness of the water is caused by Azolla - a floating relation of the fern family.

Reflections on the Rochdale Canal at Littleborough

This beautiful house is located on the banks of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal about half way between Stourport-On-Severn and Kidderminster. On looking at it i don't thick it has always been a house .Between the 2 upstairs windows there is a bricked up arch and above that there is a small opening where i think lifting gear was located so maybe used for loading and off loading goods to and from the narrow boats that used the canal so the house may have part of some past industry that was situated here

The canal that runs through the Walton Center for Planetary Health at Arizona State University is about 150 years old. "The Kirkland-McKinney was among the earliest irrigation undertakings in the Tempe area, named for William H. Kirkland and James B. McKinney. With help from the area’s Hispanic residents, it is estimated the Kirkland-McKinney branch was constructed between 1869 and 1870, which makes it the oldest extant and in-use water conveyance in the SRP system."

Staying with both the water theme and 1976 - August in this case - another slide restoration. At least the canal has water which I suspect was somewhat lower a couple of months earlier.
