One of those places in the which takes your breath away the moment you step on the ledge to witness the sight. It felt like being on a different planet, something you only see in your dreams.

The gorgeous mountain ranges of Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rockies cradle the three turquoise blue lakes illuminated by intensely colorful light as the setting sun colors low-lying clouds. I was quite lucky with the light that day.

This image encompasses everything I love about landscape photography. The weather was p1ss poor that morning. Chance of getting the image you wanted in this beautiful location was very bleak. The mood was down after the long morning hike. Rain and very thick clouds. Then the clouds stepped away just for a few dozen seconds for the sun to burst through to illuminate the mountain exactly as I had hoped for. It is moments like this you never forget.

Canadian Rocky Mountains never disappoint. 🌄🇨🇦️🍁

Fulfilling a lifelong dream of witnessing the beauty of the Matterhorn of Canada: Mount Assiniboine. It was worth the very long, but slightly painful hike. One of the most beautiful provincial parks I have ever seen.

Photographer for scale.

Old wooden mine wagons were used to transport ore and materials in mines from the early modern period until the late 19th or early 20th century. They were usually made of wood, with iron or steel frames, wheels, and axles. They ran on wooden planks or rails, guided by pins or grooves. They were pushed or pulled by men, animals, or rope-haulage systems.

Some of the advantages of wooden mine wagons were that they were cheap, easy to repair, and could be adapted to different sizes and shapes of loads. Some of the disadvantages were that they were heavy, prone to rotting and breaking, and had limited capacity and speed. They also required a lot of manual labor and animal power to operate.

Wooden mine wagons were gradually replaced by metal mine cars, which had higher capacity, durability, and efficiency. They also allowed for the use of steam and electric locomotives, which reduced the need for human and animal labor. Metal mine cars became more common in underground mines, especially coal mines, where they could handle the large volumes of coal produced by machines such as longwall shearers and continuous miners.

Wooden mine wagons are now considered historical relics.

The Atlas Coal Mine is a place where you can step back in time and discover the fascinating story of coal mining in Alberta.

It was once the largest and most productive mine in the Drumheller Valley, producing over 12 million tons of coal from 1936 to 1979.

The mine was also known for its harsh working conditions, labor disputes, and accidents that claimed many lives.

Today, the Atlas Coal Mine is a National Historic Site that preserves the legacy of the miners and their families. You can explore the site’s buildings, structures, and landscape elements that reflect the different phases of coal mining and processing.

You can also take a guided tour of the mine’s underground tunnels, surface plant, or tipple - the towering wooden structure that sorted and loaded the coal.

The Atlas Coal Mine is more than just a museum; it is a living history of Alberta’s coal heritage.
