Two Hereford calves in Burton upon Trent

I have wanted to photograph a very young moose calf, with its cinnamon-coloured fur, for a number of years.

This past June, I was finally fortunate enough to see not one but twins with their mother.

Image created on June 8, 2023 in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.

We found a cow and twin calves in Denali National Park. We were on our way home in our truck when we spotted them. I simply pulled our truck over, shut off the engine and we sat quietly. We waited probably 20 minutes and it paid off, the trio came within 50 feet of us. It was 11:15pm with cloudy skies, the moose did not pay any attention to us at all. Our grand daughters were in the back seat and the only noises made were silent whispers of "they're adorable."

Lubricating their noses, keeps their nasal passages moist.

Seen along the park road in Denali National Park, Alaska.

Thanks for the comments and views and have a great Wednesday!

Love the two cows in the background watching the youngsters run around like crazy. lol

All photos were taken with respect and caution from the safety of my car as a blind. The herd was feeding at a local farm field very close to the road. I used a super telephoto lens on a cropped frame camera and cropped this by more than 50% to highlight just the calves. Once people started getting out of their cars and elk heard a dog barking they ran for the tree line.

Highland Cattle Calves. Derbyshire, England.

A calf is a young domestic cow or bull. Calves are reared to become adult cattle or are slaughtered for their meat, called veal, and their hide. These Three were seen on a Community Farm in East Hull .

I've found a new passion. Photographing cows.

:)

Two little Bull calves were asleep near the fence. We stopped to have a conversation with them, but they decided we were too scary and remembered what their Momma told them about talking to strangers so they hightailed it off across the pasture to their Mommas at the other end! Brave / not so brave! LOL

Love how the older calves go and make the newborns feel welcome.

#118/121 Young ones: 121 Pictures in 2021

This is the same family I encountered few days ago, the calves have put on substantial weight and keeping up with mama moose. I was lucky enough to catch them in much better light.

We had a new calf born on the property last night. A little girl.

Patiently waiting for their mum's to return.

DJZ_2486-Edit: I didn't want to get by the fence when taking this photo as the calves would run away from me. They aren't used to being around people yet.

Taken when they were both less than 24 hours old. The mothers parked them here for safe keeping while they grazed in the field. Both calves are Angus / Charolais mix. The black one favors her father and the white her mother.

Charolais are large white cows, and one of the oldest of the French breeds. Angus are a smaller black cow of Scottish breed. Angus are kind of, well, cows. Charolais are smart, not something you necessarily want in a cow, but a lot of fun.

Our farm is not commercial. We have a very small herd that serve as lawn mowers for our fields. We don't milk them, nor are they beef cattle. Don refers to them as a healthy hobby, and likes the routine of working with animals and gardening all our vegetables.

The calves seem to be completely captivated by my camera. They can't help themselves and are so curious.

They will come closer and then jump back soon as the shutter releases.

If they are brave enough I will hold it out for them to sniff and it seems as soon as they do, the novelty wears off.

(Enlarge for an even bigger smile )

Afternoon fun with these little guys.

Just look at all the different colours. These are all Snowy's progeny and the mum's range from red to black. I find the different dilutes fascinating.

Three calves in a pasture of bluebonnets trying to figure out the strange human-type creature pointing something at them.

Their mom was grazing on the other side, I didn't want to risk going closer to her for taking. picture. So I had to be satisfied with the backside of these beautiful calves. Taken at Yellowstone National Park.

Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. I very much appreciate it.
