Here is a B&W of the image below. Was able to play with the blue gray tones to lighten the background bokeh to get a nice contrast with the antique calculator.

Close-up with the gray plastic buttons of a simple mathematical calculator, showing the numerals and other basic options. The frame has holes making it easy to snap on to a traditional organizer.

From the Paul Graney Collection. This is Graney's pocket sized photographic handbook and diary 1939.

After using my calculator I put it aside and after a while noticed that it showed CASIO briefly before switching off. I turned it on and off again and waited for what seemed a long time before the name was displayed again. I've had this calculator for years and have never noticed this before.

Probably you wore this if you didnt have time to dig in your purse or go to your desk for the big calc-another one of those 'Only 80s' things.

Daphne, one of my Flickr contacts, who posts some great macro and theme shots posted yesterday a close-up of a calculator and made reference to "tax time". Certainly brought a smile with the timely image. It also made me think about the Monroe hand operated calculator that was my Grandfather's. It was always fun to see him use this machine by hand when he would help other family members and friends do their taxes each year. He used this up until he died. It still works and is fun to use!

Knowing that today's calculators are very hi-tech, I thought it would be neat to showcase this Monroe unit with some hi-tech color (blue LED seems to be all the craze). Setting this calculator up on a table in our family room and then placing my 70/200mm across the room with the curtains pulled closed in front of our glass doors to the outside, I could get that "cooler" blue cast lighting as a background. Using the warm overhead light from a single bulb, I liked the contrast in warm and cool colors and the antique / hi-tech contrast as well.

This rendition is with the tight DOF. Also have a version that I will post that is at f/8, allowing for more DOF across the calculator. Both are nice, and have their characteristics that I like. Also hope to post some B&W and Antique process shots of this. I think with the color contrasts, these could turn out looking pretty cool. We'll see :)

The accountancy calculator makes use of its specialist design and fills the tricky area between the decimal point and 0 keys with a 00 button.

Which I used when I was at Secondary school. Entirely mechanical you wound a handle to crank up the results and the harder the sum the more you had to crank!!!!

Not happy with the perspective of the keys on this. My fault that I didn't photograph the calculator from the correct angle. Oh well, we live and learn.

Its revision time in our house, for GCSEs in May/June, this is not good.....very stressful indeed. Having seen my daughter through this process..my son is well....words fail me sometimes!

Calculator shown in my photo has the following screen protector applied, which as you can see is almost impossible to notice:

I also highly recommend the following soft case, which fits the Prime like a glove, even with the plastic slide cover attached:

www.amazon.com/dp/B017XEGQDU/

The HP Prime is the only graphing calculator with a capacitive touch-screen, allowing pinch to zoom on graphs. Exam approved. Allows RPN operation. Faster operation than any TI calculator, and easier to use than the TI Nspire.

I acquired two HP Primes for my children who are in Jr. High and High school. The Primes were purchased from Walmart in the USA, which as of July 2018 was the lowest priced seller of any I could find. I myself own an HP28S which is purchased for engineering school in 1989, and a 48GX with 128MB FRAM card and Meta Kernel, and the 50g.
