A stone Cairn to mark the highest spot of the ridge. It is good to have such a landmark to indicate that you have reached the summit of whatever hill you have just climbed!

I stacked a few rocks pointing to the sunset after taking a few photos with my brand new Canon EOS-R camera. This Cairn celebrates the promise of a new year, hopefully a more healthy and prosperous year for all of us, and for the world, both human and natural.
A somewhat precariously balanced-looking cairn on Mallerstang Edge at the top of Headley's Gill. Under cloud shadow in the background is Wild Boar Fell.
I always appreciate these heads-up rock piles left by hikers who have gone before. This one looked especially sculpture-like to me. On the trail through Panther Meadow on the west flank of Mt. Shasta
The same marker cairn we passed on the way up An Socach now offers a great view of Glen Baddock as we descend back down in glorious sunshine.
After a few test runs and weeks of chiropractic care on my back, it's finally time to start the climbing season with a climb up An Socach. An Socach (pronounced An S-Oh-Ack) is my 17th Munro and stands at 944 meters (3097 feet), and although not the longest of climbs parts of it are very steep.
We've reached the marker cairn, and a short rest. Ahead lies the steepest part of the climb which takes us up on to the summit plateau before we eventually reach An Socach. It will take us about 30 minutes so I'll see you up there!

It's great to finally have a zoom lens and capture things that I couldn't have before. I can't begin to explain how often I can't take a photo that I want to because I only have short prime lenses.
