One of the many pavement cafe's that are found on the pedestrian only streets of Clifton Village. The area is popular with locals and students, especially on a warm September Day, enjoying the lively and relaxing atmosphere.

The Rocks is the district of Sidney, Australia where the original penal colony was founded. Many fine early 19th century buildings still remain; today it's an area with many restaurants, bars, and cafes within an easy walk of the central waterfront.

I used Silver Efex Pro 2 (Full Dynamic Smooth) to create a Black & White image, and then blended it with the original to get this partially desaturated effect. All done in Photoshop Elements 11.

at first glance, it’s just a person having coffee. but the symmetry, the silence, and the reflection pull you deeper. there’s a conversation here — between self and shadow, presence and absence. the space is sharp and geometric, but the mood is soft. the glowing backlight outlines the figure like an afterthought of light. and the word glowing above it all — disfruta — feels like a whisper of irony. what we see is just half of what is. the rest happens quietly, within.

she’s here, but also elsewhere — her expression suspended in the quiet between thoughts. the window turns the café into a vessel of layered lives: pedestrians blur with bottles, conversations mix with traffic. it’s one of those instants when the city forgets its pace and lets time stretch just long enough for a silent pause.

The location is Bebo’s café Welwyn Garden City.

The misty windows make a lovely filter

I have taken a similar shot but this one the windows are more misty and deliver a natural shroud, so the lady is not easy to make out. I am beginning to enjoy using a 35mm lens on an APS-C system which makes it a traditional length for street photography.

I took this photo while wandering through Brussels' Marolles district—a place I love for its vibrant energy and spontaneous street scenes. This shot stood out because it feels like two different worlds in one frame.

On the left, people relax on a bar terrace, savoring beers and the warm glow of café lighting. On the right, a young woman works with focus in a shop window. Though divided by a wall, both moments happen side by side on the same street.

After taking the photo, I had a brief, friendly chat with both the woman and her partner on the terrace. That small exchange made the moment more personal.

The Marolles is full of texture and surprises—faded stickers, bold signs, rough walls. But what matters most here are the people. No one's performing; they're just present. And that honesty is what I love about this scene.

Another addition to my series 'Urban Solitude'. I captured this photograph nearly 11 years ago while wandering the streets of Amsterdam, passing time before another meeting. The young woman appears either bored or saddened, despite sitting in 'Cafe van Zuylen,' a renowned cozy spot along the bustling Singel, near Dam Square in the heart of Amsterdam. Interestingly, I wasn't aware of the cafe's reputation when I took the photo. It was only years later, during a visit to Lauswolt, a hotel in Beetsterszwaag, Friesland, that I recognized the place depicted in a painting hanging in the hotel's bar. It dawned on me then that the pub where I captured the young woman's moment was nearly an iconic establishment in Amsterdam - Amsterdam, the Netherlands

the air is thick with quiet. two people sit at a café in madrid, their lives divided by inches of metal and glass. her gaze drifts outward, searching for something the street cannot give her. his focus is on the glow of a phone, a portal to another world. between them sits the weight of unspoken words, heavy and still. the black and white tones stretch the moment, pulling every detail—the texture of the wall, the lines of their coats—into sharp relief. it’s a scene of distance, of connection undone, and of time pressing on without pause.

When people think of Bruges, they often picture lace, chocolate, or medieval houses as the perfect souvenirs. But as I walked through the streets, I came across a scene that felt even more “Belgian.” A weathered doorway, a man stepping outside, and on the small café table: empty beer bottles and a glass of Duvel.

For me, this snapshot says more about everyday Belgium than any postcard. It’s unposed, unpolished — just an ordinary moment that feels genuine. Sometimes, the best souvenirs aren’t the ones you buy in a shop, but the fleeting moments you capture with your camera.

If only there had been more sunshine…

Street photography during an architecture course in black & white, shot in Munich. This is the café at Museum Brandhorst—still mostly in the shadows, so people preferred sitting inside. Not really visible here, thanks to the reflections in the window.

What caught my eye: the contrast between the empty chairs, someone dressed up, and someone in hot pants—each heading in their own direction.

More to come from these photo sessions: spanning Museum Brandhorst, Pinakothek der Moderne, the Film School, and soon BMW World and the BMW Museum.

Some shots will be minimalistic, others more street, others more graphic.

Stay curious. Expect surprises, explore new view points.

This image captures a rustic wooden table in a cozy indoor setting, likely a café or bistro. The focus is on the rich texture of the table surface, adorned with small potted plants and softly glowing candles that add a warm and inviting ambiance. A brick wall in the background contributes to the space’s modern industrial charm. The blend of natural elements, subtle lighting, and minimal decor evokes a sense of calm, comfort, and mindfulness. It's a space designed for pause and relaxation.

Taken with a Leitz Elmar 50mm f/2.8 M lens, captures a serene moment in a cafe. A streak of sunlight falls through a roof opening, creating a unique play of light and shadow. The lens's characteristics shine through as it gently overexposes the white shirt, adding a touch of intrigue to the scene.

I took all my holiday pics with my Canon G15 camera, using a monopod and a 2 second timer delay to minimise any camera shake.

I used Lightroom to enhance the RAW image and Topaz Studio to get this graphic-art effect, and then Photoshop Elements to create the border.

My first visit back to my childhood spotting mecca without my dad.

Gone are the Cross Country 47's, Reggie Rail 37's up to the Coast, no 86's or 87's, no coaching stock and HST's, gone are the RES workings, and the 08's pottering around.....

One thing that doesnt change are the old boys. Camera slung around necks, backpack, shirts and jean combos' lack of soap.

At 43 I'm slowly getting there - but not without having deceny personal hygiene haha....

"Raphael Soyer and his identical twin brother, Moses, were born in Borisoglebsk, Tambov, Russia in 1899. Their father, a Hebrew scholar, writer and teacher, raised his five children in an intellectual environment in which much emphasis was placed on academic and artistic pursuits. Due to Russian oppression, the Soyer family was forced to emigrate in 1912 to the United States, where they ultimately settled in the Bronx.

Raphael pursued his art education at the free schools of the Cooper Union where he met Chaim Gross, who became a lifelong friend. He continued his studies at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York. While there, he studied with Guy Pene du Bois and Boardman Robinson, taking up the gritty urban subjects of the Ashcan school. After his formal education ended, Soyer became associated with the Fourteenth Street School of painters that included Reginald Marsh, Isabel Bishop, Kenneth Hayes Miller, Peggy Bacon and, his teacher, Guy Pene du Bois. Soyer persistently investigated a number of themes—female nudes, portraits of friends and family, New York and, especially, its people—in his paintings, drawings, watercolors and prints. He was adamant in his belief in representational art and strongly opposed the dominant force of abstract art during late 1940s and early 1950s. Defending his position, he stated: "I choose to be a realist and a humanist in art."
