"When in Brussels..."

Brussels. Not only was last year the very first time I'd ever been to Europe (and getting paid to be there!), but it was in such a beautiful city.

I was reminded of many of the photos I'd taken while on this excursion, after posting a few to Instagram from my phone, and so I thought I'd share a few. This was from a particular job I was AC/2nd Camera on, travelling around with a fellow who dealt in ancient & tribal art, thus we were hitting the art fair going on in Brussels at this time. I can't tell you what a wonderful experience this whole shoot was, working with some fantastic people!

A delicious Leffe Brune being enjoyed in the Café Leffe in Metz, France. Leffe Brune is a Belgian dark ale with a 6.5% ABV. The beer was originally brewed by Abbaye de Leffe in Dinant, Belgium and has recently been purchased by InBev.

When I tagged along on a trip to Lille with Ron recently, his colleague took us out for an aperitif before dinner.

Now in these parts, aperitif = beer and with Lille's proximity to Belgium, beer = Trappist beer.

"You have to try the Leffe de Noël," the Christmas Leffe.

And where better to try it than Café Leffe, where you can order other beers, but it would be rude not to drink the namesake brew?

We sat in one of those tent terraces beloved by the French, but we had to move when the cigarette smoke from the next table engulfed us. But that worked to my advantage. I got Vlad out and managed to set him up with a view of the big wheel which was to be officially switched on the following night when we'd be on our way home.

It took time to get ready to take the shot and Ron and François carried on chatting and sipping their beer while I checked the focus and did the Blad shuffle. As you can see I took a sip or two of my beer but I swear there's an innocent reason why the glass is crooked.

The Moselle River in the center of Metz, France. The Café Leffe is just across the river; a very good Belgian Trappist beer is served there.
