These golden lion heads on the columns at Caesar's Palace were across the street from the real lions in Siegfried and Roy's "Secret Garden" at the Mirage.

Caesar's Palace was absolutely massive- this photo only captures about half of it. We never did make it in there.

The Promenade plantée, i.e. the planted promenade, is a promenade with plants, and at the start it is elevated, as it follows the route of an old tramway.
The plants were a little sorry for themselves as the area was very, very dry, Paris is in the grip of a drought, and I suspect they were not allowed to water the plants.

The Julian clan, of which Caesar is a member, traced its roots back to the Trojan hero, Aeneas, who was the son of the goddess Venus and a mortal father. When Aeneas fled Troy after its defeat by the Greeks, he settled in Italy and became one of the founders of Roman culture (but not the city of Rome - that was founded later by Romulus and Remus). Hence the Julians' and Caesar's claim of a link to Venus.
