Exercise ARRCADE CAESAR 2015 (AC15), is a study of the Allied Campaign in Sicily (Operation HUSKY) in 1943. With Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) permanently comitted as a High Readiness Force (LAND) HQ and fulfilling the NATO Joint Task Force HQ commitment since 01 July 2015, the Commander is keen to exploit the opportunity provided by AC15 to bring the ARRC team together in order to enhance their understanding and demands across the land, sea and air domains.
The exercise provides an invaluable opportunity to develop mutual understanding, to enhance component synergy and, using the past as a handrail, to provoke challenging discussion and debate on how to tackle the operational level challenges they may face in the future.

Carla Cardini held a Caesar salad class for Houston Chowhounds at the very hospitable Culinaire Catering Aug 24th 2009.
Carla is the granddaughter of Alex Cardini, brother of Caesar, after whom the salad is named. However, it was invented to give a local pilots something to munch on while drinking, hence it's original name, 'The Aviator Salad'
Created during the 1920s, the original salad used whole lettuce leaves, as it was meant to be eaten by hand. Dressed with the best salad oil available in 1920s Tijuana, a one-minute egg was added, the yolk splashed with salsa inglesa (Worcestershire) and lime juice.
Then the leaves were 'rolled' over one another and your favorite parmesan added.
The only anchovy present was puréed onto a simple crouton. Oil was previously infused with chopped garlic.

Fresh salad is always a special treat to myself :-) I must confess that I tossed courtons on my salad for the first time...a discovery of yumminess!

Caesar has put together a team of skallywags, miscreants and mercenaries, in many ways not much different from many professional sports teams today. However, I fear he may have a hard time finding another team willing to oppose him. But he says he likes it that way, because that means he wins by forfeit.

This is Baby Caesar, inspired by my son's very bald head and pokey ears. His head and ears were just crying out to wear a laurel wreath.
I made the tunic from a homemade pattern and used white cotton. The drape is simply purple broadcloth with finished edges and a gold ribbon trim.
The laurel wreath is craft wire covered in gold ribbon with leaves cut off a clearance rack bouquet of fake flowers.

Las Vegas, August 1997. We were here mostly as a jumping-off point for our holiday in Arizona, but Vegas turned out to be diverting in a mind-boggling way. Grand total spent gambling: 25 cents. (We lost.)
Time for a few BA shots to break the views of waterfalls! This was our room at the Caesar Park Hotel

Every hour in the evening they play music and the fountain water 'dances' to the music. What a sight.
