after we finished with the first 3 locks i followed the cable guys to photograph them leaving our boat. one of them introduced himself as robie and we chatted for a few minutes before he got off. he was 32 years old, has been working on the canal for 6 years, and takes 19 boats through a day. he asked me if frank was my boyfriend or husband, and repeated for verification after i answered. then he gave me a kiss on the cheek and let me take his photograph before he climbed the rope ladder to the boat speeding alongside ours. another man named tony introduced himself and had a quick chat before disembarking. they seemed quite the lady-killers. i couldn't figure out why they would bother having a 4 minute flirtation, but decided it was just to give the tourist lady a thrill (which they certainly did). a boatload of hunks get on, throw cable around, laugh and have a good time, and then pile off.

This is my most recently completed knitting project.
It's not very clear from this photo, or the other ones I took, but the headband is actually about an inch and a half wider at the front (shown here) than at the back. Allegedly the shaping is supposed to make it more comfortable to wear. It certainly makes it more interesting to knit (although with the cable running through it and the slipped selvedge on either side it's not too boring anyway).
It's come on quite a long way since my previous photo of it.
The main cable parted on the crane while it was lifting the derrick up to be pinned to the drillfloor. The derrick fell several feet; luckily no-one was injured.
