Approaching Cabinet Tunnel, an eastbound train of empty grain hoppers makes its way through the forests of northern Idaho near the community of Cabinet late in the morning on a cool, overcast Monday, November 3, 2025.
Paris
Ebony and other woods, tortoiseshell, ivory, oil paints on copper.
The strictly and geometrically designed corpus of this Parisian cabinet was decorated with rich carving and finely engraved ornament.
The interior contains a concealed great hall with the mythological lovers Venus and Mars at its center.
Unlike the freestanding ivory cabinets made at Augsburg, this cabinet-on-a-stand was positioned in front of a wall.

This is how they live now. Finally I don't have to worry that our cats somehow manage to get on their shelf, yay! :D
The cabinet is called smådal... maybe it should be filled with only little dals ^^
Fussing over my new cabinets. I keep on changing items for each shelf. A second cabinet is in the works for my dollhouses. Finally getting them displayed :)
Spent yesterday at the DiRosa museum and sculpture garden in Sonoma with fam. Among other wonders, got to see Sam Yates' 65' tall filing cabinet. During construction, Yates disassembled an entire MG sports car piece by piece, rolled over the bits with a steam roller, then added them to the drawers, "cataloguing and storing each fragment with a label like an auto parts shop." The DiRosa consists of two indoor galleries where you learn about the California "Funk Art" tradition, then get to experience the funk both indoors and outdoors, while walking along a tree-lined lake. Really lovely how it's all put together. They've been hit hard by Covid, which is a shame since this really is the perfect Covid activity (at least the outdoor part). They need visitors - consider taking the family!
Macro Monday's and the theme of "Knolling".
I quite enjoyed the Knolling theme that MM covered back in 2019 and although I left taking part late as usual I didn't really want to miss this week.
It was mainly a case of finding some items which would be suitable as a subject. The last time I used a picture hanging kit and after a little bit of searching I came across these cabinet connectors in my toolbox.
When we moved house and if we ever get rid of a cabinet or furniture item that is beyond redemption I have a habit of keeping screws, nuts, bolts or anything that is used to hold the parts together as they may come in useful at a later date. At least for this weeks theme they finally did.
After locating a white sheet of A4 I used a pencil and ruler to draw a 3 inch square and arranged the items inside. Then it was just a case of mounting the camera on a tripod above and cropping the image to a square once it was captured.

I've returned home from holiday and had a little time to tinker with the doll cabinet today. I've been slowing making dioramas for all my bjd sizes so here's a little peek at my progress. One morning I woke to find that my husband had made all kinds of doll furniture for me. Since then we have been setting up comfy homes for my dolls together. We're tragically slow to finish but I'd rather wait for him to be home to do it together then do it alone. He is still traveling so much. :(
Here you can see the whole cabinet and my photo setup. It's pretty basic but it works well for me. The lamps are 'happy lights' which just means they replicate natural sunlight. Supposedly they're good for improving your mood. I'd say they work but this cabinet is pretty successful on it's own >w<;;

This cabinet card by A. F. Colbarne of Canterbury, England is a photo caricature made by double printing that combines the head of a young man with a drawing of a small body and a bicycle. It is a later take on the earlier images where subjects held a card with a small body under their chin.

One of our lockdown projects has been this little cabinet for Kate's small pokemon plushies. We started with this rustic nautical themed cabinet from Hobby Lobby. It even had rope for knobs, lol. It was transformed after many coats of paint.
