We had an absolute blast exploring the Silver Thread Scenic Byway this last week. Fall color was peak awesomeness and I finally got to check out North Clear Creek Falls! Ever since I first saw a photo of these falls years ago I have been wanting to visit. Now that I have I would have to call this a somewhat hidden gem that easily is one of our finest waterfalls in the state.
In some ways these falls remind me of a western Colorado version of Palouse Falls in Washington, which is high praise indeed. We see them lit here by the full moon that followed last week's lunar eclipse (which was also awesome).
Have a great weekend ahead all!
Edit: I have replaced the first version posted with this as the previous had something happen with color management and came across far too warm.

Beautiful sunset over North Star Lake in the Chippewa National Forest near Marcell, Minnesota.
Photo was taken from my campsite at the North Star Lake National Forest Campground on Minnesota Highway 38, aka the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway.
This stretch of highway is one of the most scenic in the state. The Highway 38 road bed still retains a fair amount of its original upsy-downsy curvyness. It goes north out of Grand Rapids and runs until it intersects Minnesota Highway 1 in Effie.

It is located along the Peter Norbeck Byway. Roughly a figure-eight route, the byway travels through portions of Custer State Park, the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve, near Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the Black Elk National Wilderness Area. Highways 16A, 244, 89 and 87 combine to create the route, A masterpiece of artistic engineering, this 70-mile byway includes spiraling bridges, hairpin curves, granite tunnels and awe-inspiring views. A Beautiful weekend Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.
Enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between the towns of Baker City and Halfway, with beautiful blue skies and amazing views of the Wallowa Mountains along the way including a stop at the Halfway Farmers Market, and some time exploring the town of halfway and surrounding century farms.
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

This Old section of Hwy80 was once a Mother Road, it winded through the mountains near Jacumba, down to the Anza Borrego Desert far below. Later The highway was straightened and widened and this section was bypassed. Today it looks like a view of the Post Apocalyptic World.
