Buzzed Lightbeer @ Freakout Festival 11-08-2024

The word "buzz" is of "imitative" origin....it sounds like the sound. In aircraft terms, when a plane flies low and fast it makes a buzzing noise (especially in the days of rotary piston engines when airplanes sounded nothing like jets). The term is alive and well even though planes, except for the little private planes like the one in this photograph, don't really buzz anymore. It still means flying low and/or close with the intent of startling or frightening the target, be it on the ground or another plane. This small aircraft is seen here buzzing seacraft on San Francisco Bay as part of an aerial exhibition by the USAF's "Thunderbirds" that same day.

Buzz Williams is always active on the Virginia Tech Bench.

In partnership with Envoy, American Airlines, the Dallas ISD, The Medal of Honor Foundation, Independence Corps, Microsoft, the Buzz Aldrin Foundation, Florida Institute of Technology, and Kennedy Space Center, students from four Dallas high schools were provided a once in a lifetime opportunity with a historical trip to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Envoy provided a private charter to bring the students to the space center, and became the first civilian airliner with passengers to land on the runway where the Space Shuttle landed when returning from a mission.

Beginning with a kick off dinner inside Envoy’s maintenance hangar at DFW International Airport, and a good nights rest at the Sheraton DFW Airport Hotel, everyone boarded the beautiful E-175 aircraft provided by Envoy, and took off for Cape Canaveral! After the historic landing on the runway, students were taken to the Astronaut Training Experience center for a full day of training, learning, and working in teams to accomplish their mission goals. Over the next 3 days the students were also given the opportunity to tour the center, work in the Mars training laboratory, and fly simulators at the Florida Institute of Technology with their aviation program. All the activities were tailored to provide the students exposure and inspiration to purse career paths in STEM related fields. Combining STEM activities with the Medal of Honor Foundation’s Character Development program was also a driving force behind the trip and experience. Medal of Honor Recipient, Gary Littrell, and VP of Education for the foundation, Cathy Metcalf, joined the students, and provided valuable lessons on Character, Integrity, Commitment, Sacrifice, Patriotism, and Citizenship. Michael Jernigan, USMC (Ret.), also joined the students providing inspiration and assistance to all.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this amazing trip possible, and provided the students with an educational experience of a lifetime. Photography proudly provided by Reel Heroes Media.

Fritz and I have needed haircuts for some time now. Each time it is on the agenda, something diverts us. Well, today was the day. He has grown up so much as he was such a good buddy sitting in the chair as he was shaved.

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command!

Normally on a morning like this I’d babble. A lot. Not this time. Instead I’m just going to buzz around and do stuff. No babbling or overthinking. Hope you do good stuff too and have a nice day.

Buzz Lightyear cake decoration made entirely of fondant and brushed with sugar glaze so he's shiny. This was made for my nephew's birthday.

These wags on a sailboat buzzed us (totally on purpose).

Buzz was another character that I had problems defining in the design (the mask was easy, it's got a lot of irregularities on the edges). When I saw this wig in the catalog, I really wanted to work it into the show--it was actually responsible for inspiring the whole idea of each character having a distinctive wig style.

OC. No one is safe from my wrath.
