Stretching almost 2 km out to sea, Busselton pier is the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere. I'm indebted to Rudyard Kipling and James Joyce for helping me name this shot.

Busselton Jetty shuttle train leaving the far end of the jetty, site of one of only six underwater observatories in the world.

This is a "rework" of one of my favourite panos from Western Australia... the Busselton Jetty, which is the longest jetty in Australia at over 1.8 km long. It's also the second longest wooden jetty in the world...

Longest jetty in the southern hemisphere

Even after the sun was below the horizon colours lingered in the sky and played at the water's edge. This shot is also dedicated to my friend Gladys. Sunset over the jetty. One from the archives and an old camera hence the noise.

The interpretive centre and shop, beyond is the shark netted safe swim area.

Another from my trip across to WA, again with some lovely cloud and colour.

This jetty is approximately 1.8km long with a fully functioning train that takes tourists to the end.

It is the longest timber- piled jetty in the southern hemisphere and goes out into the beautiful blue/green waters of Geographe bay.

It was a crappy day when we visited so I have posted in B&W.

The Busselton Jetty is the longest timber piled jetty in the southern hemisphere. In Western Australia, the jetty is 1841 metres long, originally built in 1865, re-opened in 2011.

I took this shot from Busselton jetty looking out across Geographe Bay. The sun has gone but the colour lingers on: my apologies to Irving Berlin for mangling his great lyrics (You and the song had gone, But the melody lingers on), we're both great romantics -))

The historic Busselton jetty which we did not stroll down because they charge you to walk on it!

Extending 1.841 kilometres over the protected waters of Geographe Bay, the heritage listed Busselton Jetty is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere and is home to one of six Underwater Observatories in the world!

Every once in a while I take a shot so bad it's almost good. I wanted a late night shot of Busselton jetty, but my camera's attention was focused elsewhere. So here you have it, Busselton jetty as I never intended.

Busselton is home to the longest wooden pier in the southern hemisphere stretching almost 2 km out to sea. Construction of the jetty began in 1853 and was continually extended until the 1960s when it reached its current length of 1841 metres.

Busselton Jetty, Busselton, Western Australia

Another wonderful day in Western Australia; I drove from Perth to Busselton. Along the way I stopped to spent five lovely hours with my friend Gladys. I arrived in Busselton in time to see the sun set over the Indian Ocean. For a man from eastern Australia, it's something of a novelty to see the sun set over the ocean. Gladys, this photo is dedicated to you, I hope you approve ;-)
