This represents an example of an circulated $100 scrip note.

Listed as follows in Schingoethe and Schingoethe (1993, page 82):

No. IN-830-100 $100.00 ND. Black on off-white paper. Statue of Freedom at left, dog at right center. Printed names of H. B. Brown at left, M. E. Bogart [sic, Bogarte] at right. Back Green; school name and text at center. 170 x 69 mm. R7

Schingoethe’s rarity of R7 indicates that only one to four examples of this scrip are known to exist.

Note that the cashier's surname is spelled incorrectly on this scrip. Martin E. Bogarte was associated with the normal school upon its opening in 1873 He was a professor of mathematics and elocution. Bogarte died on November 17, 1911, of a heart attack at the age of 56.

Wolka et al. (1978, page 299) provides an enumeration of obsolete notes issued by Indiana colleges and universities. Included is the “College Bank” at Valparaiso, listing denominations of 10¢, 25¢, and $500. College Bank is presumably the Northern Indiana Normal and Business Institute, the forerunner of today’s Valparaiso University.

Remark: The Northern Indiana Normal School and Business Institute, which operated from 1873 through 1900, later to be renamed Valparaiso College in 1900, and then renamed again as Valparaiso University in 1906, issued scrip as a form of trade. The Institute is known to have issued scrip in denominations of 1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, and $5,000, which was backed by its deposits fictitiously held in the First National Bank located in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, or the Merchants Commercial Bank of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. This represents an example of an uncirculated $20 scrip note.

Listed in Schingoethe and Schingoethe as IN-890-20 with a rarity of R7 (only one to four known examples exist).

This represents an example of an uncirculated $10 scrip note.

Schingoethe and Schingoethe (1993) do not list an example of this scrip. However, it closely resembles the class of scrip listed as IN-790 (p. 82). Alternatively, this scrip may be represented by IN-880-10 as described by Schingoethe and Schingoethe (p. 83). Given that this scrip is unlisted in Schingoethe, it is assumed it has a rarity of R7, indicating that only one to four examples of this scrip are known to exist.

The University of Hawaii Venture Competition is hosted annually by the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship’s (PACE) in UH Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business to support budding entrepreneurs by providing hands-on education, mentorship and resources to students from the 10-campus UH System who wish to start a new business.

Today Baker College has 14 campuses in Michigan, but the school began as two separate colleges. On in Muskegon and one in Flint. The Muskegon one started first. In 1888 Woodbridge Ferris started the Ferris Business College in Muskegon (he also started FSU in Big Rapids). Later it became Muskegon College and then bought out Baker Business University in Flint.

In the 1990s the Muskegon campus moved from downtown to the edge of the city. The Muskegon campus has grown to over 5,000 students. It is directly across the street from MCC, which also has 5,000 students. It has made this part of the city into College Town.
