The "Canton Cannonball" approaches the diamond with the former Burlington at Bushnell, operating westward on the former Toledo, Peoria & Western mainline. Leading the way are two former Algoma Central Railway FP9A units purchased by Pioneer Lines in the mid-2000s. With a recent change in ownership, these units will now be sidelined and put up for sale, ending over a decade of service on the former TP&W. This was part of a memorable week-long trip to the Midwest in the middle of the never-ending Winter of 2014-15. We had intentions of going to warmer climes, but the weather forced us to go to Plan C. I sure am glad it did! Special thanks to Pete Ruesch for showing us around this day, as well as getting us South Shore Freight action, along with John Means, the day before and later showing us around the Indiana Railroad with Chris Thompson.
CSX Q453 passes through the town of Bushnell, FL along the CSX S-Line also known as the Wildwood Subdivision in this area.
Keokuk Junction's fine looking FP9's roll into Bushnell Illinois over a right of way that looks more like a Milwaukee Road secondary line back in the seventy's. This railway is a must see for anyone wishing to get the feel of how things used to be. The chase is painfully easy to do,with the average track speed of 10mph. Lets go !!
Forty years ago in March of 1980 BN 93 idles at Bushnell Illinois. Depot, track,(except mains) and motor are all gone! The Bushnell Illinois switch job was considered by most the best job in the district, and usually was held by the engineer at the top of the seniority list. Copyright © Revenge Photography. Very excited, my first fox cub on the patio. I knew there was a vixen visiting and hoped she would bring her cubs. Looking forward to what happens tonight!
You never know just what's in your garden at night, unless you have a trail camera. I take one with me when I go on holiday or visiting the family!
Never thought I'd have a CN Heritage unit, much less the BC Rail one in my camera roll but here we are.
Rumors floated around about a week prior to this about this unit potentially leading a potash down. Few days later, it was confirmed leading. On some random weekday, I had gotten word it had left Jacksonville in the afternoon, after well accepting that this would be a night run, I was happy. Here it is at the first spot on my chase: Bushnell, FL. They were wasting absolutely no time doing all of track speed through this small town on B24120.

Bushnell Park in Hartford, Connecticut is the oldest publicly funded park in the United States. It was conceived by the Reverend Horace Bushnell in the mid-1850s at a time when the need for open public spaces was just starting to be recognized. Today the park comprises 50 acres (20 ha) of green space, and is visited by over one million people each year. Paths through the park contribute to the East Coast Greenway.
Finally Escaping the incoming snow and hitting some sun, 844 is seen with its train just west of Bushnell.
More footage of the cub that visits my patio. It comes in on its own most nights. This time it came face to face with the hedgehog!

HWCX 108 is considered a covered hopper. I never saw one of these Halliburton cars and thought it was interesting.
L-CHI665 is seen passing by the former CB&Q Bushnell depot with a nice SD70MACe leader. Pretty gross to see road power on these elusive locals, but an EMD makes it all the more tolerable.
And then there were three! At this rate there will be a queue down the side passage waiting to come and eat! I haven't seen the vixen for a few days, which is unusual so I wonder is she having another litter!

(Submarine Tender 2) Lifting USS L-2 (Submarine 41) partially out of the water, while in an Irish port during World War I. Moored to Bushnell's port side are (from left to right) USS L-4 (Submarine 43) USS L-9 (Submarine 49); and USS L-1 (Submarine 40).
But, for whatever reason, the BNSF dispatch cleared the Keokuk train to cross the diamond first! From it's holding position outside of town, you could hear the classic EMD power ramping up. Even though the train came creeping into town, the rumble and roar of those vintage prime movers could be felt from your fingers to your toes. The F's clanged across the diamonds here, for the final time as property of Pioneer Railcorp. And once again the former CB&Q freight house was witness to another historic occasion.
More fun on the patio. The cub is learning how to pick up the doggy meatballs all at the same time - not very successfully!
