We came across a pair of Burrowing Owls on Marco Island, just relaxing in the sun despite the afternoon heat.

Want some frog leg? This adult has different colored eyes. There is black around the outside of the yellow. Not sure why but there are some burrowing owls that have dark eyes.

I was super excited to see and photograph burrowing owls with chicks. My husband and I found a few different nests and were able to witness some wonderful behavior. Here the chicks posed nicely in front of a pond.
Seeing these in West Texas usually around the Prairie Dogs and their abandoned burrows, was neat to see this bird overwintering along the Texas coast at Matagorda Beach Park. It used the jetty rocks for a non-stop supply of sea roaches for food. Athene cunicularia
