Burning light - Sunset at Winskill Stones with intense burning light of the sun's last rays, streaming onto the lone hawthorn tree and just catching the limestone pavement.

The cloud bank which had just moved in enveloped most of the sky except for a small portion on the western horizon with the setting sun streaming through this narrow gap. The cloud cover removed the blue scattered light normally seen with a cloudless sky at sunset, leaving the sun's almost red rays to dominate the scene with an unusual intensity.

Inspired by Pete Rowbottom, Wigan, UK who's sunset the previous day at Winskill flic.kr/p/PrjPWa convinced me it was a good idea to visit the stones at last light the following day. Thanks Pete!

The burning bush can always be counted upon for a good display of autumn colour.

I SAW YOU IN THE WINDOW

OF A CAFÉ I PASSED BY

AND THOUGH CLEARLY MY REFLECTION

IT WAS YOUR FACE I RECOGNIZED

AND AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

I'M STILL RIGHT HERE

WHERE YOU LEFT ME

AND I'VE BEEN CALLING OUT

BELIEVING YOU WOULD ANSWER

BUT I'LL TRY TO LET GO NOW

CAUSE IT'S YOU RUNNING THROUGH MY VEINS

YOU'D COME BY WHEN I WAS DREAMING

BUT LATELY YOU'VE BEEN GONE

MAYBE I'VE BEEN TRYING TOO HARD

MAYBE YOU HAVE JUST MOVED ON

I GUESS THERE'S NOT A LOT

THAT YOU FORGOT

TO TELL ME

BUT I'VE MISSED YOU HANGIN' ROUND

AND THE WAY WE WERE TOGETHER

BUT I CAN LET GO NOW

CAUSE IT'S YOU RUNNING THROUGH MY VEINS

▶ "Euonymus alatus — commonly known as winged spindle, winged euonymus, or burning bush— is a species of deciduous flowering shrub in the bittersweet family (Celastraceae), native to central and northern China, Japan, and Korea. It is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and parks due to its bright pink or orange fruit and attractive bright red fall foliage. The flowers are greenish, borne over a long period in the spring.

Euonymus alatus is not native to North America, introduced to the United States in the 1860s. Its range now extends from New England south to northern Florida and the Gulf Coast, where, in the wild, it is considered invasive."

My autumn experience isn't complete until I behold the fiery, crimson leaves of the Burning Bush. So named because of intense red color that you see here, and which covers the whole bush in the fall.

These four leaves were lined up perfectly and I knew I had found the image I was looking for!

Their berries/seeds are also intensely red and can be seen in the background above the leaves.

Will our burning desire to get back to "normal" override our ability to practice restraint and consideration of others?

on the way home this morning, I saw this dramatic sunset after a thunderstorm. it seems the forest is burning. So I have to stop and took a picture with my smartphone.

Happy Bench Monday from Middle River on this sunset before the Superbowl ... it was an amazing burn in the sky and glad I took a chance on the colors being there in the sky. The potential was there with the clouds around and mother nature did her work.
