………From our visit to Acton Burnell Castle on Saturday, a tiny village with lots of history and a HUGE independent college - Concord College. It was a grey dull morning but I managed to eat out a bit of detail in this one. Alan:-)

Acton Burnell Castle is a 13th-century fortified manor house, located near the village of Acton Burnell, Shropshire, England. It is believed that the first Parliament of England at which the Commons were fully represented was held here in 1283

I am missing travel, so have been going through my photos from our trip to the UK in 2019.

An image I've been wanting make since I 1st saw Neil

Burnells version...thank you Neil for the inspiration

Building of the palace started around 1210 by Bishops Jocelin of Wells and Reginald Fitz Jocelin. The chapel and great hall were added by Bishop Robert Burnell between 1275 and 1292. The walls, gatehouse and moat were added in the 14th century by Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury. The Bishops House was added in the 15th century by Bishop Thomas Beckington. The great hall later fell into disrepair and was partially demolished around 1830.

The palace was originally surrounded by a medieval deer park. When the walls were built, streams were diverted to form the moat as a reservoir. In the 1820s, the grounds within the walls were planted and laid out as pleasure grounds by Bishop George Henry Law, who created a reflecting pond near the springs. Parts of the buildings are still used as a residence by the current bishop, however much of the palace is now used for public functions and as a tourist attraction

Last sunset from my recent trip to Brixham in Devon. Taken from Brixham Battery. Stunning little town. Thank you to Neil Burnell for the tips on the best local spots. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get to them. Guess another trip is needed.

I am delighted to announce that STILTS has won the 'Your View' category in Landscape Photographer of the Year 2017.

A hint of colour in the evening sky before Storm Jocelyn rolled in.

Named after the Irish astrophysicist Prof Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discovered the first pulsating radio stars in 1967, it is the second storm

to hit Ireland 48 hours.

I originally decided not to share a colour version of this as I felt it was styled to similar to a certain Neil Burnell. But having been given his blessing, here it is.

Padley Gorge In the Derbyshire Peak during some epic summer mist.

Another, almost identical composition is currently doing the rounds by someone far more famous than me. I can confirm that they were both taken the same morning. I believe he shot his first, although we were not together and never came closer than 30-40mtrs. How we ended up with 2 almost identical images is pure coincidence. Fortunately his edit is quite different to mine. He's already making plenty of money from print sales of his, so I'm sure he won't object to me sharing mine....

Not my usual type shot but a very enjoyable morning up on Dartmoor with some stunning light.

Another Orange Tip butterfly, but its the first one I'm happy with. All a learning curve and good fun.

An escape to camp by a lake in the Okanagan to start the summer nicely.

Une escapade dans l'Okanagan pour passer la nuit au bord d'un lac à camper, avec de belles couleurs au crépuscule

The wonderful Wistman Woods on Dartmoor is the subject of today's post. I had arranged to meet up with fellow Kase Filters UK ambassador Neil J Burnell and we were very lucky to get some great conditions. This location is really brought to life by the addition of fog. So atmospheric. Dartmoor National Park

Many thanks to Nick Green for showing me where this stunning wreck is! Finally got an image of it, even if the conditions were very testing, luckily Nick was on hand with his umbrella 😂

Commended in OPOTY 2017

For anyone interested, there are a few copies of my book "SEASCAPES" still available from here: www.kozubooks.com/product/landscape-editions-volume-eleve...

Thanks to Nick Green for the inspiration on this one!

The ancient oaks at Padley Gorge in the Derbyshire Peak District.

Image and processing influenced by the wonderful images of Wistmans Woods by Neil Burnell, hence the title.

Given the black and white treatment so it wasn't a blatant rip off of someone else's style.

Not sure what this strange chimney type thing is in Hooe Lake.

Was hoping for some mist as predicted in the forecast but it never came!

Westcombe Beach

24/5/2017 Edit: lifted the vignette a touch.

Just trying some muted colour processing to try and give a more dramatic feel to Nuns Cross.

Another view of Nuns Cross Farm in the snow. :-)

With over 17,000 images I'm really proud to have got 2 images in final 150 photographs to be included in the annual.

Conditions were perfect this morning for this shot at Shoalstone. Little bit of sea mist made it easy to process, nice big tide and some lovely soft light. Decided to keep this one in colour, although a mono version might appear at some point!

This is my photo for the 52 in 2019 Challenge - #33 - Castles in the air. Taken at Acton Burnell Castle.

Acton Burnell Castle is a 13th-century fortified manor house, located near the village of Acton Burnell, Shropshire, England. It is believed that the first Parliament of England at which the Commons were fully represented was held here in 1283.

Really just didn't want to do "another LE mono" of this popular spot so decided to try and process something that reflected the cold winter conditions this morning while shooting.

I've had my eye on this little landscape for a while now, I never thought I'd be lucky enough to photograph it in the snow as it just doesn't snow here in Brixham!

Mattiscombe, Devon

GALACTIC - Another Milky Way shot from the South Hams coast last night.

2 shot pano with the sky sections stacked (2 x 3shots) to get rid of the noise , foreground was shot at the very end of blue hour then blended (exif is for foreground image).

I am a big fan of photographer Neil Burnell and over the weekend i was around his patch of the world. The woods on Dartmoor are about as fantastical as you can get with so many compositions its ridiculous! The oaks are all twisted and gnarly and for a woodland tog like me, heaven!

I found this fellow lurking off the main path and just love how its developed this long tendril like bough, like its reaching out to its neighbour. I decided against my usual edit, which are warm in tones and went for a much colder, darker fell on this one. I think it works well but let me know what you think.
