I know you can't see any, but this is where you get them.
And it sounds dirty. Which I like.
They were delicious. The steamed buns. They weren't dirty.

I love buns!
These are the Chinese buns that you steam...the dough is really soft and plain and the inside is filled with goodness. When I'm in the city I always go to Dragon Land Bakery and get ones filled with the red pork stuff. MMMMMM! =D

It's Easter, so there were Hot Cross Buns for tea ... Apple and Cinnamon ones!
I remember when there was only one sort of HCB, now there are a million different flavours to choose from.
“Hello Sky, I wondered where you had got to.” Said Bertie who was sitting beside Posh.
“Hi Bertie, Posh, good to see you both.”
“I didn’t notice you at breakfast this morning Sky; did you give it a miss?”
“You are putting on weight Sky, I noticed that when you walked over to us.” Added Bertie.
“I had a different breakfast today as the man baked some buns yesterday evening. I managed to get a few and put some aside.”
“Did they taste all right?” Asked Bertie looking hopeful.
“Not really, heavy as lead and the sultanas resemble bullets. Last night they had at least felt soft but I gave up on a knife and fork and found that hammer thing in the end this morning. I managed to get them into pieces eventually though.”
“What is the point of that Sky, if they taste that bad?” Asked Posh.
“I have found that if I smother them with enough honey, I can take the taste of his cooking away completely. The buns do add a certain something to the honey but I’m not sure quite what as yet. I still have some buns left but I wouldn’t recommend eating them, I’m not quite sure yet what I’ll do with them. I suppose they might come in handy to sit on with a soft cushion.”
“Won’t that leave crumbs about the place though Sky?” Asked Posh.
“Not a chance. Might damage the wooden flooring but crumbs you won’t have to worry about. I really did wonder if it was going to dent my hammer thing at one point this morning.”
“Sky, it might be fun to have one each and have them as seats. I’m sure we could find some cushions of some sort to soften them with. Is there many more left?” Asked Bertie.
“I would imagine so Bertie, I can’t see anything being able to eat more than one at a sitting and even then, they would need a hammer thingy.”
“Will you show us where they’re stored then Sky?”
“Sure, but you are going to need something to carry them in. I mean these are heavy, you don’t like pick up and walk away. No way. I’d find the shopping cart, park it on the floor and then we might be able to roll them off the worktop and straight in to the cart. I only hope they don’t flatten the cart.”
“Maybe best if we take one at a time if they are that heavy.” Suggested Posh.
“Well, there is no way you are going to take them all at the same time Posh. I had help from Elli and Icecap plus the organisational skills of Wellington yesterday, even then we struggled.” Said Sky looking doubtful at Posh.
“That isn’t a bad idea Sky, we could enlist the help of Elli to roll them off the worktop while we align the shopping cart down on the floor.” Said Bertie.
“No way Bertie. If you think I am standing even close to where they drop, I’d think again. Anyway, after last night Elli said she didn’t want to try and move any more, she said that moving moonrock was easier.”
“Well come on let us have a try and see what can be done, we’ll help you with your bun Sky, and we’ll get that in position, and then we’ll set about getting our own bun seats.” Said Posh looking quite excited at the idea.
A good while later saw Posh, Bertie and Sky sitting on the buns looking exhausted but quite pleased with themselves.
“Posh, just a thought, when we leave these seats won’t the man wonder how they got here?” Asked Bertie.
“He can wonder all he likes Bertie, then he can move them back to the rubbish bin if he is able to pick them up, for they are too hard and uncomfortable as seats. Plus, I have one of those sultanas positioned really badly right now and it is making sitting down a tad uncomfortable. Not one of my better ideas I admit.” Said Posh Bear.

I decided to try to make my own buns. It was the first time I tried it and it worked out quite good :)
I had a little cold this week, but it wasn't too bad. So I went to work. Also I'm still waiting for my examination results. The uncertainty is killing me...
Anyway, I wish you all a nice weekend!

I really love baking so I spent part of the morning making these Spelt Buns. I make the dough in my bread machine. You can make them with AP flour if you prefer. This is my go-to recipe. These buns are crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. I brushed them with coconut milk and put sesame seeds on top.

The two 'Eddys' wish you a Good Friday ..and, hey... would you like a Hot Cross Bun? Fresh from the oven..... lovely and spicy and warm and soft..... just slather them with butter and find a cup of something you enjoy.... mmmm.....
Recipe from Geoff's Baking Blog
One of his older recipes ..but, we love it. Very nice flavour and softness ... I used some raisins and mixed peel in mine....
The bunnies are made from sparse long off white mohair. Their eye lids are little moon shaped pieces of velvet stitched on and some shading done with watercolour pencils. The nose area is needle felted with a natural white local Romney wool. Ears and paw pads are soft velvet. The second little guy has been in the making for a very long time.... finished him just in time for Easter....
This should last a day....perhaps.
I think I should own a bap bar....beer and a roll. How does that sound?
Uh oh, I am becoming a bread bore.
One of my bread loaves I made on Saturday. I made the cutting board, too.
One of my favorite: a little wine, the bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
The cutting board is made of blood-wood and maple.
This year I decided not to bother with crosses.... the bun is more what it's all about to me.
I looked online and noticed that plenty of 'not cross buns' were talked about ... along with info about when and where the original hot cross buns got their start.
Saw this little blurb on a British baking site.
~~~As far back as we can trace hot cross buns, they have been massively popular. Stories abound about bakeries being harangued by enormous crowds when their buns went on sale. Hawkers sang their now-famous song throughout the streets, and sold buns from dawn till dusk. The Chelsea Bun House was a particularly popular place to buy the buns, and is said to have been mobbed by poorly-behaved bun lovers, in 1792, to such a degree, that the owners somewhat sulkily refused to sell hot cross buns the following year.~~~~~
Who can believe they were ever that popular there would be "mobbing". They seem a bit like fruit cake to me ... some people like them and others wouldn't even want one.
I'm one that likes them..and used my tried and true recipe from Geoff's Baking Blog. As usual... lovely, flavourful and soft buns with plenty of fruit in them.
It's always tricky trying to make the fruit stay in the dough.... especially when forming them into balls....acckkk!!! Raisins popping out all over the place and I don't like them burning on top, so tend to stick them back in on the bottom as I form them. Strangely, the fruit still seems evenly distributed and not just concentrated on the bottom... hahah....
Happy Easter everybody !!
