The bullfrog’s coloration ranges from green to olive or brown with a white to yellowish belly and dark-barred legs. Body length is to about 20 cm (8 inches); hind legs to 25 cm (10 inches). Large adults weigh 0.5 kilogram (1 pound) or more. Bullfrogs usually live in or near bodies of still water. They breed in early summer; the eggs are laid in water and hatch into dark-spotted greenish brown tadpoles. Depending on climate, the tadpole stage lasts one to three years. Many bullfrogs are caught for food.

Bullfrogs are sometimes confused with Green Frogs, however Green Frogs have two dorsolateral ridges that run partway down the back. An adult male Green Frog also has a large tympanum and yellow breeding colours, but is much smaller than an adult male bullfrog.

They are very hard to spot on these pads..

Enjoying a very warm mid-March morning. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This bullfrog was at the edge of the lake. We will hear it croaking all summer. I saw it while I was doing spring clean-up.

I will get caught up on comments soon!

Check out those eyes!

Beaver Lake

So many of these beauties to behold. Anyone whose favorite color is green can't help but love them!

This individual moved in to our backyard water feature early in July and has been a fixture there since. Who needs a backyard cat when you have one of these predators? The water feature is new as of late last fall. Hopefully it will help successfully draw fall migrant birds especially with the new vegetation we added to supplement the taller existing trees.

Sunset near Bullfrog Landing on Jones Tract in the California Delta. This is a lovely spot and a favorite repeat visit for me, but oh those mosquitoes are hungry and aggressive.

This is from an outing with Jeff F. from 2019. It has taken me this long to return to this set to process the pics. I hope I do better with my kids' birth photos.

Yes, it's the same one as in the previous images. Ironically, the next day my wife and I were walking the dogs in Illinois Canyon and I found this frog still sitting on this log with the same leaf and pine needles on her. She had not moved for over twenty four hours.

Close up of the reflection of trees in this frogs Eye is super cool and mesmerizing.

Came across this dude at our office pond today, sitting there looking like a statue!

The same bullfrog that was sitting on the rock with the baby painted turtle. The look on its face may have to do with all the flea/gnat-type insects feasting on its frog blood. Of course, should one of those little bloodsuckers happen to fly in front of the frog's face, it's payback time!
