Indian River quarterback Dominique Brooks beats his old school… sweet revenge!
All week long, he heard the buildup surrounding the big Southeastern District showdown between No. 2 Indian River and No. 1 Oscar Smith. He also was going against his former team as he was the starting quarterback during the Tigers’ run to a third consecutive state championship game last season.
But Brooks handled the pressure as he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Braves to a 28-16 win over Oscar Smith in front of more 5,000 fans. It was the Braves’ first win over the Tigers since 1998. And the win also put Indian River in the driver’s seat to the district title, which they haven’t won since 1996. The Braves finish the season against Grassfield (4-4) and Western Branch (0-8).
Brooks overcame early jitters that included two penalties and back-to-back incompletions on his team's first possession, but he settled down with throws of 25, 15 and 24 yards.
Ahshawn Moore completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Indian River take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers, who have lost just two Southeastern District games since 2007, answered when quarterback Cam’Ron Kelly threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Etheridge.
Indian River (8-0, 7-0) regained the lead in the second quarter when Brooks threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Brooks for a 14-7 lead.
Oscar Smith cut the deficit to 14-10 on Austin Benoit’s 27-yard field goal with 3:04 left in the half.
The Braves added to their lead before the half on Carmello Sweat's 69-yard touchdown run to make it 21-10.
The second half started well for Indian River as the Braves capitalized on a muffed snap on a punt to get the ball on the Oscar Smith 31. Three plays later, Brooks threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Moore, who made an incredible one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone. The Braves led 28-10 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
But Indian River coach Glenwood Ferebee couldn’t relax. He remembered 2015 when the Braves led 14-2 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Oscar Smith score 13 points in the final 3:24 to beat them.
He thought about it even more after Kelly's 24-yard touchdown pass to Etheridge to help cut the deficit to 28-16 with 6:08 left in the game.
And the Braves held on as Ferebee beat Oscar Smith for the first time in his career.

The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Indian River quarterback Dominique Brooks beats his old school… sweet revenge!
All week long, he heard the buildup surrounding the big Southeastern District showdown between No. 2 Indian River and No. 1 Oscar Smith. He also was going against his former team as he was the starting quarterback during the Tigers’ run to a third consecutive state championship game last season.
But Brooks handled the pressure as he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Braves to a 28-16 win over Oscar Smith in front of more 5,000 fans. It was the Braves’ first win over the Tigers since 1998. And the win also put Indian River in the driver’s seat to the district title, which they haven’t won since 1996. The Braves finish the season against Grassfield (4-4) and Western Branch (0-8).
Brooks overcame early jitters that included two penalties and back-to-back incompletions on his team's first possession, but he settled down with throws of 25, 15 and 24 yards.
Ahshawn Moore completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Indian River take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers, who have lost just two Southeastern District games since 2007, answered when quarterback Cam’Ron Kelly threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Etheridge.
Indian River (8-0, 7-0) regained the lead in the second quarter when Brooks threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Brooks for a 14-7 lead.
Oscar Smith cut the deficit to 14-10 on Austin Benoit’s 27-yard field goal with 3:04 left in the half.
The Braves added to their lead before the half on Carmello Sweat's 69-yard touchdown run to make it 21-10.
The second half started well for Indian River as the Braves capitalized on a muffed snap on a punt to get the ball on the Oscar Smith 31. Three plays later, Brooks threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Moore, who made an incredible one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone. The Braves led 28-10 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
But Indian River coach Glenwood Ferebee couldn’t relax. He remembered 2015 when the Braves led 14-2 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Oscar Smith score 13 points in the final 3:24 to beat them.
He thought about it even more after Kelly's 24-yard touchdown pass to Etheridge to help cut the deficit to 28-16 with 6:08 left in the game.
And the Braves held on as Ferebee beat Oscar Smith for the first time in his career.

This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

This is a special kind of nasty. The water in my house builds up these mineral deposits in all the plumbing hardware that forces water through small holes: the shower, the sink, etc. I'm not sure what it is, but it means I have to take apart the showerhead and sink aerator every couple of months to clean this stuff out.
Buildup of the Delta II that will carry into space the Mars Global Surveyor continues at Launch Complex 17A on Cape Canaveral Air Station, as workers install the nine solid propellant graphite epoxy motors around the first stage of the vehicle. The Surveyor is slated for liftoff during a 20-day launch period opening Nov. 6.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Hot springs are sites where groundwater emerges at the surface and the water is hotter than the human body. In many cases, hot spring water is boiling hot, or close to it. At Yellowstone in Wyoming, most hot spring water precipitates opal (hydrous silica, SiO2·nH2O), resulting in buildups of geyserite, a chemical sedimentary rock. Some Yellowstone hot springs precipitate calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Seen here is a hot spring in Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. The rocky buildup is calcium carbonate. Chemical sedimentary rocks of calcareous composition formed by hot spring water include "calcareous tufa" and "travertine". I'm not entirely convinced there is a difference - the terms are often used interchangeably. My understanding is that "calcareous tufa" (a horrible term, by the way) is a porous, friable precursor to travertine. Travertine also forms in caves (calcareous speleothem) and at some cold springs.
My understanding is that the original tufa/travertine deposits here have long since been destroyed. The layout of hot springs and the drainage patterns are all artificial. The modification took place to accommodate the need to pipe hot water to nearby bathhouses in early days. Tufa/travertine deposits now at the site are probably all secondary.

Thermal Cascade was designed to recreate the natural scene of hot spring water cascading down tufa cliffs. In cool weather the vapor is reminiscent of the clouds that once billowed from open springs along the lower slope.

Tufa Terraces
Before the bathhouse era, this lower side of the mountain was covered with massive terraces of tufa (travertine). Tufa is mostly calcium carbonate, which precipitates out as the spring water cools. In 1834 a British geologist observed that “The travertine . . . sometimes presents abrupt vertical faces of from 15 to 25 feet high.” Tufa formations are still visible along this trail.
After a short ascent past tufa outcroppings and the Thermal Cascade, Tufa Terrace Trail crosses the Grand Promenade. From there you can reach the Peak Trail and continue up Hot Springs Mountain.

This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

Indian River quarterback Dominique Brooks beats his old school… sweet revenge!
All week long, he heard the buildup surrounding the big Southeastern District showdown between No. 2 Indian River and No. 1 Oscar Smith. He also was going against his former team as he was the starting quarterback during the Tigers’ run to a third consecutive state championship game last season.
But Brooks handled the pressure as he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Braves to a 28-16 win over Oscar Smith in front of more 5,000 fans. It was the Braves’ first win over the Tigers since 1998. And the win also put Indian River in the driver’s seat to the district title, which they haven’t won since 1996. The Braves finish the season against Grassfield (4-4) and Western Branch (0-8).
Brooks overcame early jitters that included two penalties and back-to-back incompletions on his team's first possession, but he settled down with throws of 25, 15 and 24 yards.
Ahshawn Moore completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Indian River take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers, who have lost just two Southeastern District games since 2007, answered when quarterback Cam’Ron Kelly threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Etheridge.
Indian River (8-0, 7-0) regained the lead in the second quarter when Brooks threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Brooks for a 14-7 lead.
Oscar Smith cut the deficit to 14-10 on Austin Benoit’s 27-yard field goal with 3:04 left in the half.
The Braves added to their lead before the half on Carmello Sweat's 69-yard touchdown run to make it 21-10.
The second half started well for Indian River as the Braves capitalized on a muffed snap on a punt to get the ball on the Oscar Smith 31. Three plays later, Brooks threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Moore, who made an incredible one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone. The Braves led 28-10 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
But Indian River coach Glenwood Ferebee couldn’t relax. He remembered 2015 when the Braves led 14-2 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Oscar Smith score 13 points in the final 3:24 to beat them.
He thought about it even more after Kelly's 24-yard touchdown pass to Etheridge to help cut the deficit to 28-16 with 6:08 left in the game.
And the Braves held on as Ferebee beat Oscar Smith for the first time in his career.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Nuvinci guy got the frame from spot and built it up with belt drive, Nuvinci CVP hub, wood fenders, and other nice trim. It's a lovely bike.
Epic thunderstorm buildup just to our east, seen from around Pleasanton, CA. Upon starting our commute home from work, I saw this... An isolated thunderstorm was pounding Livermore, CA at the time! I quickly asked my mom if we can go to an open area so I can briefly take in this storm at least from a distance. Simply awesome! Now if only we were able to chase this cell... Fun weather times. (Tuesday late afternoon, September 20, 2022; 5:10 p.m.)
*Weather scenario: Much-needed rain & t-storms had hit central & northern parts of California, bringing relief to places that typically see no precipitation in September… A low-pressure area, an occurrence more likely in winter, was churning off the coast. It had followed unprecedented heat across much of California at the start of September, when a prolonged historic heatwave had shattered all-time record highs. Summer months are usually dry here & the 1st half of September was no different. The notable exception to the dry conditions was the tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Kay in far-southern parts of the state. In the past few days, the unusual September rainfall has fallen from Santa Barbara up thru the California/Oregon border. This weather pattern that has brought scattered showers & t-storms was expected to hang on for another day or so, with the quasi-stationary low-pressure system off the coast forecast to begin moving inland by Wednesday. After the weather system exits, we should expect a return to hot & dry conditions.
Indian River quarterback Dominique Brooks beats his old school… sweet revenge!
All week long, he heard the buildup surrounding the big Southeastern District showdown between No. 2 Indian River and No. 1 Oscar Smith. He also was going against his former team as he was the starting quarterback during the Tigers’ run to a third consecutive state championship game last season.
But Brooks handled the pressure as he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Braves to a 28-16 win over Oscar Smith in front of more 5,000 fans. It was the Braves’ first win over the Tigers since 1998. And the win also put Indian River in the driver’s seat to the district title, which they haven’t won since 1996. The Braves finish the season against Grassfield (4-4) and Western Branch (0-8).
Brooks overcame early jitters that included two penalties and back-to-back incompletions on his team's first possession, but he settled down with throws of 25, 15 and 24 yards.
Ahshawn Moore completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Indian River take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers, who have lost just two Southeastern District games since 2007, answered when quarterback Cam’Ron Kelly threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Etheridge.
Indian River (8-0, 7-0) regained the lead in the second quarter when Brooks threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Brooks for a 14-7 lead.
Oscar Smith cut the deficit to 14-10 on Austin Benoit’s 27-yard field goal with 3:04 left in the half.
The Braves added to their lead before the half on Carmello Sweat's 69-yard touchdown run to make it 21-10.
The second half started well for Indian River as the Braves capitalized on a muffed snap on a punt to get the ball on the Oscar Smith 31. Three plays later, Brooks threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Moore, who made an incredible one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone. The Braves led 28-10 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
But Indian River coach Glenwood Ferebee couldn’t relax. He remembered 2015 when the Braves led 14-2 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Oscar Smith score 13 points in the final 3:24 to beat them.
He thought about it even more after Kelly's 24-yard touchdown pass to Etheridge to help cut the deficit to 28-16 with 6:08 left in the game.
And the Braves held on as Ferebee beat Oscar Smith for the first time in his career.

This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

Despite the huge buildup and high expectations, the show was so miserably disappointing. Here it is, Saturday at 2 PM. The show's been open for hours. There were maybe a hundred people in there, tops...
...And yes, of course I'm joking. It was actually about 9:30 AM and the show hadn't opened yet. Exhibitors were still setting up their tables. I was able to avoid the line and walk right in because I was moderating three panels and was also registered as Press. I was in the same situation last year at New York Comic-Con and yup, I did pretty much the exact same thing.
My sense of fair play compelled me to try not be an active con attendee until the doors opened at 10. I thought about how minused I'd feel if I'd been waiting in line since 6 AM to get on A Very Famous Artist's sketch list and I had been the first one through the door and the first one to arrive at AVFA's table...only to discover that all of the available spots on the list had already been filled by Exhibitors, Press, Speakers, and anybody else who strolled in a half hour early, after having gotten a good night's sleep and and enjoyed a big, hot breakfast across the street from the convention center.
But keeping that in mind: yes. Oh, hell yes: I strolled straight in at about 9:20 AM and I didn't even think twice about it. I've done the "standing in line for hours" thing many, many times, often in weather incompatible with mammalian life. Choosing to wait in a line when you're allowed to bypass it is like having an ingrown toenail removed and choosing to forego anesthetic.
I think if I'd chosen to wait in the line, even the folks who were lined up outside would wonder why I was such an idiot. Just like an actual Civil War soldier would wonder why the hell so many men today would choose to spend the weekend sleeping in the mud and eating infested hardtack at a Civil War reenactment when they could be sleeping in snug beds in huge, heated houses with clean, running water and huge supplies of fresh food.
This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

This was taken in Oakland, one month shy of the first anniversary of 9/11. It would still be another 7 months before we went to war in Iraq, so I'm unsure of the destination of these tanks as the headed to the Port of Oakland shipping terminals.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

Indian River quarterback Dominique Brooks beats his old school… sweet revenge!
All week long, he heard the buildup surrounding the big Southeastern District showdown between No. 2 Indian River and No. 1 Oscar Smith. He also was going against his former team as he was the starting quarterback during the Tigers’ run to a third consecutive state championship game last season.
But Brooks handled the pressure as he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Braves to a 28-16 win over Oscar Smith in front of more 5,000 fans. It was the Braves’ first win over the Tigers since 1998. And the win also put Indian River in the driver’s seat to the district title, which they haven’t won since 1996. The Braves finish the season against Grassfield (4-4) and Western Branch (0-8).
Brooks overcame early jitters that included two penalties and back-to-back incompletions on his team's first possession, but he settled down with throws of 25, 15 and 24 yards.
Ahshawn Moore completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Indian River take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers, who have lost just two Southeastern District games since 2007, answered when quarterback Cam’Ron Kelly threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Etheridge.
Indian River (8-0, 7-0) regained the lead in the second quarter when Brooks threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Rasheen Brooks for a 14-7 lead.
Oscar Smith cut the deficit to 14-10 on Austin Benoit’s 27-yard field goal with 3:04 left in the half.
The Braves added to their lead before the half on Carmello Sweat's 69-yard touchdown run to make it 21-10.
The second half started well for Indian River as the Braves capitalized on a muffed snap on a punt to get the ball on the Oscar Smith 31. Three plays later, Brooks threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Moore, who made an incredible one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone. The Braves led 28-10 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
But Indian River coach Glenwood Ferebee couldn’t relax. He remembered 2015 when the Braves led 14-2 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Oscar Smith score 13 points in the final 3:24 to beat them.
He thought about it even more after Kelly's 24-yard touchdown pass to Etheridge to help cut the deficit to 28-16 with 6:08 left in the game.
And the Braves held on as Ferebee beat Oscar Smith for the first time in his career.
