A display tells me that "the amount of energy created by the 8400 cells in the Harry Taylor Solar Wall in one hour can support an average house for an entire day." Hmmmmm.
In Ontario, the average home uses 30 kWh / day. So, is this a 30 kW capacity solar array?

The project began producing on 9 Sep 2009. Two and a half years on, I'd love to see Sunnybrook announce the daily (or yearly or hourly!) production numbers. Was it worth it? How well does a vertical mount work at this latitude? The public wants to know. :)
Update: The media release from Honeywell, Sunnybrook's technology partner on this project.
Honeywell is predicting the array will generate "nearly 27,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually."
I ran the thing by PVWatts and it suggested 22,122 kWh annually if the array is pointed due South, with an DC capacity of 32 kW and a de-rating of 0.77.
I notice at around sunset that there's no way the array is still collecting; it's not just partly shadowed -- the sun is actually shining on the back of the panels. This will get worse from now until midsummer. With the array at this angle, and Toronto at this latitude, there's no way around it.

Please don't confuse this kind of "solar wall" with a thermal solar wall, which is a simpler, cheaper, and much lower-tech way of heating rooms on the south sides of buildings. You can learn more from OMAFRA.
