My entry for pkmncollectors Summer photo contest.
My bugs had a field trip to "Japanese style garden" -> my flower bench. 8D
I'm spending this week developing my professional web site (finally!), so I'm going to infill with some of the really groovy bug shots that I got on the weekend with my old friend LP.
It took a while for this cockroach to relax enough to move his head away from his body. For the first few minutes, he was all scrunched up. I thought the definition of his head in this photo really made the shot.
Very creepy viewed large.
Taken handheld with my Nikon D600 for 1/60th of a second at f/8, ISO 1600 with my Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 VR macro lens, using on-camera flash.
A little menagerie of bugs on common buttercups. One of the bugs is in mid-air. It took a while to get this shot because they were all afraid of the camera and movement at first, but eventually they returned for me to take the photo. I'm not sure what the little blue flowers are.
Day 228 - View Large - Spent a little time sitting with the lilac bush and was amazed at all the tiny bugs busy in there. The little beetle is about the size of a seed bead, the middle one is about 1/2" long and the spider with attitude is only about 1/8" long.
My enemy, the assasin bug will have to go - will cut weeds down, but will spray backyard for insects first.
i found this lil critter on the window sill at work. sadly, he is dead, but his body is in the most excellent condition. finally, a cute dead bug to add to my collection.

[Old Timer SlugBug = 2 slugs.]
Note - So it's true, the bugs do come out at night.
This is our Bugs Away soap. It is an insect repellent, in the shape of a caterpillar. It smells of citronella.

Nasty bugs are attacking my little lime tree that is already suffering mightily from the unusual freeze we had this winter.
On the branch they look sort of like buds, but with nasty white moldy looking stuff involved. They are soft and squishy and gooey when you pull them off. Also once you get them off you see little wiggly legs and their icky little mouth.
I like them not at all.
If somebody could identify them, so I can find the best way to kill them, before I simply douse the tree with gasoline and set fire to it, that would be lovely.
