Probably a Hawthorn Shield Bug

Dense flat rubber bugs. Likely late 1950s or very early 60s.

Hawthorn shield bug caught by Garden spider, spider seems to be having trouble finding a way in!

Bug orgy bush. Stopped to check out where the sweet perfume on the wind was coming from and found it coming from this bush. Then I noticed that it was covered with bugs. Then I noticed that all of the bugs were getting down... guess the scent is like and aphrodisiac to them.

If a bug sees in the same way we do, perhaps this is what it sees.

This Mirid Bug, Grypocoris Stysi, is tiny - adults measuring between 6-8mm. Eggs hatch in May and nymphs become adult in June and July.

When taking this photo up the river a young child stopped and asked what I was doing - both she and her parents were surprised at the results on the camera - as the bug was barely visible on the plant.

This is 'as taken' cropping being the only adjustment.

I didn't want to post 2 shots of the same bug, so I chose to combine them. Think it works- somewhat like a 'convict' shot, front & profile - only the 'number tag' is missing.

Pentatomoidea is a superfamily of insects in the Heteroptera suborder of the Hemiptera order, which are commonly referred to as shield bugs or stink bugs.

Shield bugs have glands in their thorax between the first and second pair of legs which produce a foul smelling liquid. This liquid is used defensively to deter potential predators and is sometimes released when the bugs are handled carelessly.

Don't know exactly what this bug is, or what kind of weed this is, either, but the colors were lovely.
