Buff-rumped thornbill.

Even when you can't see the buff coloured rump, that characteristic "frown" and the white eye tell you who it is. Often solitary birds, or in small parties. In winter they join mixed feeding flocks with several different other species.

A Lifer. Rarely seen in Idaho; I'm told by an authority that this bird has only been reported a few times.

One of my favorites from a trip to Texas last week - the Buff-bellied hummingbird, a colorful south Texas beauty.

Two images from a couple of falls ago. This sandpiper has only been recorded a few times in Idaho. A lifer for me and one I'll likely never see again.

------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so they might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH! Because JESUS LOVES YOU! ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

As one might expect from the world’s largest wetland, there is a good variety of wading birds around including several species of ibis. This Buff-necked Ibis was definitely one of my favorites.

Buff-banded Rail

The secret seemed for finding BBH's is to travel as close to Brownsville as possible. A birder told me to go to Harlingen to find these hummers. While wandering around looking, I spotted several in a forested park (Hugh Ramsey), I looked over at large growth of Turks Caps and noticed a couple of BBH's. Since Hummers tend to be habitual, I stood and waited for them to return, which they did. Their repeated appearances allowed me to experiment with my settings as I tried to get a few detailed action shots.

Lifer!

I've figured out two reliable tricks for getting half-decent pictures of hummingbirds.

1-If you hear a hummingbird zip by, and there are flowers nearby (like on a big rhododendron), stake-out the flowers patiently and eventually a hummingbird will probably show up.

2-Find an active hummingbird feeder, wait for hummingbirds to feed, then watch where they go. Often they sit really-nearby, on branch or something, between feeder trips.

Anyway... this one zipped right back to a feeder moments after this picture.
