Bubs is a sulphur crested cockatoo that lives in the aviary in the Palmerston North Esplanade gardens.
Quite a character and will say to you "want a scratch" and then lean his head against the mesh and enjoy a head scratch from anyone keen to do it!

Wir schreiben den 14. Februar. Am Valentinstag nahm ich meine Rückreise von Afrika in die Schweiz in Angriff. Da mein Zug ab Fès erst um 11 Uhr abfuhr, konnte ich den ersten Al Atlas nach Oujda noch fotografieren. Wir fuhren dafür an den Stadtrand von Fès und wurden schon bald von ein paar Schulkindern «entdeckt». Wir machten etwas Smalltalk, zumindest das, was aufgrund der arabischen bzw. französischen Sprachbarriere möglich war. Mein sehr guter Kollege «BMW-Lars» konnte von seiner beruflichen Erfahrung profitieren und konnte als waschechter Lehrer eine Lektion «recyceln». Nachdem er bereits Ende Januar ein paar Schulkindern in der Schweiz das Zählen von 1-30 auf Französisch beibringen musste, konnte er dieselbe Lektion auch auf dem Feld vor Fès halten. Die ganze Situation war äusserst amüsant und nachdem wir ihnen ein paar Dirham Sackgeld gegeben hatten, fanden sie an meinem Schnupftabak gefallen. Sie erkannten gleich um was es sich in der schwarzen Dose handelte. Sie hielten die Hand hin und nahmen eine Prise wie die Erwachsenen. Anschliessend zogen die Buben Leine. Ohne Ablenkung konnten wir uns nun dem Al Atlas widmen und zur Planzeit war das Foto der DH 413 im Kasten. Als wir anschliessend zum Auto zurücklaufen wollten, kam ein etwas merkwürdig anmutender Herr auf uns zu. Er wollte uns vor allen möglichen Gefahren warnen. Der Kontakt mit der lokalen Bevölkerung sei gefährlich, die Eisenbahn sei gefährlich und so weiter und so fort. Er fragte mehrmals, wo wir denn übernachten würden, worauf wir nie antworteten. Zu guter Letzt begleitete er uns ungewollt zum Auto, um unsere Sicherheit zu garantieren. Vor der Abfahrt machte er noch ein Foto von uns und vom Kennzeichen des Mietautos. Mit etwas ungutem Gefühl fuhren wir nun noch den Bahnhof Fès an, wo ich kurz darauf meine Rückreise in Angriff nehmen konnte. Eine Woche Fotoferien in Marokko nahm langsam sein Ende. Die Reise war ein voller Erfolg. Wir hatten eine gute Zeit und die Ausbeute war sehr divers. Von den lauten GM-Diesel über die Nez Cassé mit langen Phosphatzügen bis zum schnellen Al Boraq konnten wir sehr viele gute Fotos anfertigen. Was das Wetter anbelangt, mussten wir zwar dem guten Wetter hinterherfahren, doch mit nur einem Wolkenschaden können wir definitiv glücklich sein, insbesondere wenn man die Wetterprognose betrachtet. Die letzte Reise nach Marokko wird es hoffentlifch nicht gewesen sein.

Good to see a plover bub make it to this stage. You get so used to seeing a group of baby fluffballs and before you know it either most or all of them are gone :/ It's tough being a lapwing parent.
He took my black tee had to get me another one...
He was set to go to the Army, but after getting a call from his B F in Iraq telling him "DON'T DO IT BUB!"
he changed his mind. THANK GOD. He has between 7-10 classmates there right now...
His BF is there on his 2nd tour.

IMG_7467: I'd like to introduce you to Bubs. I've been working with the MN chapter of Midwest Pug Rescue (www.mnmidwestpugrescue.com) and recently took in two fosters who were surrendered. Bubba is big, about 30 lbs, which is almost twice the size of my own two pugs. He's a giant teddy bear of a dog - very affectionate and cuddly.
If you love animals please find a rescue group to donate your money and time to. With the mortgage crisis in the US, more and more families are having to move into apartments and surrender their pets, which means there are more and more homeless animals out there. If you don't have room in your home for a rescued animal then please consider donating your money or time to an organization in your area.
